I find it is good for coming up with fresh perspectives. If I give it something I am thinking about, it can critique my ideas or new avenues of thought. It can even answer questions from the perspective of a character or historical figure.

ChatGPT is trained on a data set that, practically speaking, encompasses all recorded human knowledge. It is capable of capturing ideas on a conceptual level and making connections between those concepts. Sure a human already does this. But chatGPT can do it faster. There are edge cases where it fails to do a good job. I would specifically be wary of anything that requires exact figures, like a math problem or a line of code.
I personally use it for everything from philosophy to research to getting perspective on my life. The power you can leverage really depends on how well you prompt it.
Just remember it's a tool and treat it as such. It can extend the powers of your mind, it's not a mind itself.
