the entire reason for bcachefs removal:
kents own replies in the entire mail thread show a strong need to defend his technical work and reputation, even when others are clearly trying to shift the discussion toward behavior and collaboration.
instead of acknowledging the interpersonal concerns he repeatedly redirects to:
>critiquing others projects (btrfs is his anal)
>justifying his own actions
>framing it as a broader culture problem rather than a personal one
>attaching conditions to any offer to change
multiple respected maintainers literally spelled out that the problem isnt the code, its him. they tried explaining it over and over, and he either ignored it or turned it back into why everyone else is wrong. even when ppl said “no fs is worth destroying the collaborative environment,” he only agreed to tone it down if linus stopped touching his code.
instead of saying “ok i hear you, i’ll work on it,” he went back to btrfs-bashing, bringing up old failures, and painting himself as the victim of some cowboy culture. he acts like every convo is a battle to win, not a problem to solve together.
he even argued for the whole jornal rewrite feature to be merged in a point release, even tho point releases are just for bugfixes. shows the same “i know better than the process” vibe that makes ppl not wanna work with him.
it’s like he’s allergic to humility — the idea of just admitting fault and moving on is foreign to him. every criticism is a launchpad for another lecture.
