It is Debian with a different package manager (dnf).

If you see a fake Morse code in the top left corner, hover the mouse and swipe with two fingers left or right to change workspaces. You can't minimize, only hide windows.

Use extensions.

You can. The option to minimize is in tweaks.

If he's just starting out, it's probably best he stick to flatpaks.

My friend, do yourself a favour and install Fedora Kinoite immediately. One rebase command and a restart. That's all it takes. You'll get a better operating system and get to take the atomic feature out for a spin.

The problem with flatpaks is if you need to do dev stuff it can be a real pain in the ass. Getting IDE's and compilers and debuggers and everything to play nice in silverblue/kinoite is a juggling act. At least for me.

Oh yeah, that part is absolutely true, but for your average Joe who just wants to do normal shit, which I'm assuming this guy is, flatpaks are fine.

If you mean gnome then some anons gave good advice.
If you mean silverblue then unironically read the manual, it's very short and covers all basic things you need to do.
