You shouldn't open them from the corners of the lid and you have to pay attention to the hinges creaking and/or getting stiff. They have to be lubricated or replaced. If you ignore it the hinges will rip out the fragile mount points to the screen/lid or base/shell.

They don't make em like they used to.

T series have been in a steady decline after the T480, while E series has mostly stayed the same.
Es aren't a terrible idea if you don't want to buy used, they're still better than 99% of other consumer laptops, while the T series is basically just coasting on reputation, nowadays you're paying a huge markup for essentially the same product.

Of course this happens more often to all modern laptop that are getting thinner, where the mounting screw holes are less than 5mm deep. The insufficient plastic sleeves holding the screw treads develops fatigue induced micro cracks eventually from the repeated torque of lifting and closing the screen hinges until they fail.

The consumers share the blame as well when thicker laptops aren't moving off shelves. Remember when USB Wifi dongles came with an extension and a stand so you get better reception by placing the dongle on top of the case? Consumers choose the dongle that's a dollar less which doesn't come with the stand. Now all wifi dongles don't come with stands.

the worst lenovo did in muh Thinkpads T series gen4 and up is using low temp solder, where they solder it at temperatures dangerously close to maximum temperatures computer can get (100°C) and low temp solder is 130°C.

Let me guess, my T14 gen4 wont last as long as my T430 which still works perfectly after all kind of abuse...

I had an X1 Carbon last from 2015 to 2021. Since then I've been running a T14 and it's going strong too. I like that it's little thicker. It feels like they didn't have to compromise on sturdiness to be as thin as possible.
Anonymous No.106223373
modern laptops all tend to do this honestly, either look for one made from metal or take it apart while you can and loosen the hinges, this will also allow one hand opening without the laptop flipping backwards which a lot of laptops are terrible at
or use a desktop
>>106222918
low temp solder is expensive, old stuff uses a 63/37 alloy and newer stuff uses lead free solder because of rohs
you're probably thinking about how lead free solder is more fragile, but it actually melts at higher temperatures than leaded
fun fact: lead free solder grows hairs and nobody knows why, but leaded solder stops this
other fun fact: because it's more fragile, switching back to lead free solder caused electronic devices to break from heating and cooling down, if you had an xbox 360, ps3 or a gpu from the time that needed to be heated to work again for a while you can thank the european union
