Yes, and an equivalent of such a great product will never be released again.

yeah, see back then 600 dollars was a ridiculous amount of money for a console.

RIIIIIDGE RACER

Also the cell processor was poorly designed with massive memory bottlenecks. Xbox got around this by shoving EDRAM on the chip.

The PS3 was originally specced to be even better, the E3 2005 prototype had 3 ethernet ports, 2 hdmi ports and 2 additional usb ports on the back

And now graphics cards are launching for more than twice that.

Bait and switch, since they removed a lot of those features after only a year. All that was sold at a loss to establish themselves in the market and they had to remove it as soon as they were established because of the losses on each console.

Sad I sold my OG PlayStation to a couple that walked all the way through town just to meet up at Walmart to pick it up and walk back through the whole ass town just for this PS3. I needed money at the time since I was selling my N64 also but God was that thing wonderful. I was always afraid it was one bad day from bricking. IIRC whenever it came out it was cheaper to buy that compared to a traditional Blu-ray player.

Sure was, I managed to get my parents to buy one based on that selling point alone. we had that OG unit for a long time but eventually it had that solder issue and completely bricked, and that repair was beyond my skills, so I ended up with a Slim model (which is still good). The super slim was dog shit though, glad I never owned one.

Kinda funny how my original PS1 still works and has outlasted the fat PS3.

600 dollars felt like 1000 dollars back then. and people complained about the price, they coped with 'well it doubles as a blu ray player' which were extremely expensive.

I think blu-ray players themselves cost about $200 more on average. Hard to remember exactly but I know it was a big enough price difference that the PS3 was cheaper by a decent amount.

Thats how I convinced my folks to buy one, for the movie player. I meanwhile had (still do) a DVD/Bluray/HDDVD player for the PC.

But 2600 cannot print DeCSS. what a farce

I got the super slim and modded it with HEN. Anybody know how to make the most out of HEN because I only put Persona 4 (PS2 version) on my system before I got bored with it.

No. PS3 was a product of its time. Its features they were simple extensions of what was already normal in some way or another. It was just an evolutionary update.

Why would you need 3 ethernet ports? I get 2, for daisy chaining PS3 consoles for local LAN mutiplayer but 3 seems like an overkill.
