I will always use xorg/xlibre
I will always use linux mint

I will have control over my computers and there is nothing that is going to stop me

I remember people saying they'd never switch from Windows XP 15 years ago

I switched to Wayland for HDR support but I will be looking at Xlibre's development with interest.

There is nothing better than support. That is not a problem now, but it will be in the future.

The moment I can use HDR on xlibre I will switch
Yes it is that important to me

Fuck off you subhuman, I will strictly only ever use X11. There's no "xlibre", X11 was already free, and it was never an organization.

I'd use Wayland if any DE ever allows for disabling compositing.
No, allowing tearing is not the same thing, and even that only works for fullscreen applications.

>I will always use xorg/xlibre
All these years of Wayland and it can't even let me apply color correction to my display like Xorg (or Windows).
WTF x 10^23

>I will have control over my computers
But you depend on programmers getting drivers right and maintaining them, no? :^)

>Wayland if any DE ever allows for disabling compositing
I don't think that is even possible given Wayland's design in the first place. Compositing isn't a separate thing, like on Xorg. It's a core function in order to get the screen to display shit.

That's due to the general latency of the cursor in wayland. I believe they treat the cursor as one with the rest of the scene displayed and thus always being vsynced or something.

which distro is best for xorg setup?

my ancient nvidia gpu does not work properly in wayland due to driver issues.
i've used arch linux previously, but i'm wondering, if there's something better out there.

alternatively, how do i make arch wayland free?
Anonymous No.106228625
this but uncomposited openbox
Anonymous No.106228683
I honestly don't even get the hype behind Wayland. I installed Arch on my desktop in 2016, have since always used disk clone during HW upgrades so my software setup has been essentially the same for the past 9 years, it never occurred to me to try a different display server just for the sake of it.
Anonymous No.106229283
>>106228586
>alternatively, how do i make arch wayland free?
just avoid gnome, kde or hyprland
Anonymous No.106229374
Wayland doesn't have a good mature VNC solutions like X11 does. Enough of a reason to eliminate it in my book.
Anonymous No.106230591
>how do i make arch wayland free
use pactree to pin down what packages specify wayland as a dependancy, edit pkgbuilds of those packages to not build with wayland support, hope those options are exposed, install gentoo, violwaluigi!
last time i tried i gave up at mesa i think.

at least x11 is 100% functional. wayland shills only boast about their HDR support while they have a hacky, barely functional desktop experience.
>>106225033
i have no clue, but dwl has no visual effects or animations. i guess it could be faster. it was a pretty comfy wayland experience when i tried it.

https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver
numerous code cleanups to improve maintainablity and performance, the Xnamespace extension for separating X clients, integrated TearFree by default and allowed enabling atomic modesetting. Xnest was ported to xcb, per-ABI driver directories were introduced.

I use kde wayland on my desktop because it supports my 9070 xt best, and I use linux mate with xlibre on my laptop because it runs great and my laptop is pretty old. i really have no preference i just use what works

>*squeak*

X11 is vital. Gayland can't change gamma, it can't do a lot of shit. And it runs poorly and its not working that well and its not supported like xorg with stability.

So yeah I'm sticking with xorg/x11/xlibre
