How is the ad-based Internet supposed to work like this?
Are we not heading for a Dot-Com bubble 2.0?

I don't think it's just an "AI bubble" at this point, it's more like an "IT great filter event" where the whole tech sector made the perfect weapon to kill itself.
What will be the economic value of the whole global internet infrastructure once it's 90-95% bot traffic? Sounds to me like an economic catastrophe that will send internet back 2-3 decades.

Maybe it will revert back to how things were before personal computes, when only large organisations could afford computers. But, in this case, it will be LLMs can are confined to large organisations.

Have isps record what their customers are doing
if the person is doing bot attacks you send a missile to their house

Yeah sounds nostalgic, but that would still be a bumpy ride down as we try to figure out what to do with billions of dollars of IT infrastructure.

The IT sector also shot itself in the foot with rapid, forced diversity. Say for the sake of argument that everyone is equally capable of learning the job. A degree is still utterly worthless, so the new diverse workforce would have to work for White males for 20 years to actually become their equals. But they kicked out the graybeards around 2015 and everything started collapsing.

Well, to be honest, its compounded by the effects of AI assistance. It's been talked about to death on here, but overly relying on AI does make skill retention degrade. Yes, in the age you should absolutely be using it to complete your busy work, but if you're 'vibe coding' or whatever they call it where you are simply delivering your entire result copy and pasted strait from AI, then you're learning is going to be extremely hampered. You might write something that works, but as soon as anyone asks you what line X is doing, you're fucked.

That being said, low skill workers + AI just makes for a disaster waiting to happen. It's a bunch of people delivering solutions they do not have the slightest understanding of. So when something inevitably goes wrong, they won't be able to fix it or even know where to begin.

It's quite the quagmire the industry has created for itself.

The AI is trained on the output of a decade of low-skill workers.

Not directly related to AI, but when MS added "see usages on Github" to VS, I tried it on C# IDisposable.Dispose(). Fully a third of the implementations threw ObjectDisposedException if the object was already disposed, which is absolutely wrong according to the docs. No wonder AI is a pile of shit and the people using it have no idea.

That was my first thought as well. Only people with lots of money to throw away will be able to host popular websites. And of course there will be a bunch of small personal websites. But the "middle class" will be eliminated.

I've already heard this from people who've been long-time bloggers; their ad revenue used to be enough to support both themselves and a small team of contributors, but recently it's dramatically decreased, to the point that they've had to fire their employees just to be able to afford to keep things going.

The future of the internet seems to be: a few giant websites, AI garbage everywhere, and a handful of nonconformists talking to each other in their little corner of the web.

as long as line go up none of this shit matters bro
I can't even say I'm not a part of it
there's so many times I want to ask stuff on here and get ignored or told to ask AI or I just ask the AI instead
In the end the ads need to just go where the people are
I heard that grok is going to start putting in ads into its outputs, I imagine they're all gonna start doing that
and then we'll truly be in hell

Reminder to pay attention to the sourcing.

Source of the claim comes from a subsidiary group thats owned by French multinational defense contractor, Thales. Thales is part owned by French gov. French gov has been one of the most vocal group trying to censor the internet for what they claim is "misinformation" and "disinformation" for going against state propaganda narratives.

If you dont understand what government propaganda is, this is it. Turn off your brain, TRUST THE EXPERTS (GOVERNMENT)

I totally agree, I work generating nsfw content and its becoming really hard to monetize stuff, seems like every site there was available just a couple of year ago just got fucked in the ass by payment processors and politics (gumroad, pixiv, now patreon is getting more and more restrictive), social media sites like reddit, x or ig will outright deplatform or shadowban you if some moderator thinks your content isnt suitable burying your reach.

It seems like only big corpo groups are allowed to sell stuff they can control aka onlyfans, its transforming into a monopoly

Digital ID will save the internet. They will only let users, and state approved sockpuppets use their websites. Rest of the bots will fuck off.
This is the future.

The problem is not with half the traffic being bots, bots are an essential part of automation and a natural thing to see on the network, what's bad are those poorly coded pajeet python scripts spamming ads, engagement farming, and impersonating people.

From the government's point of view, yes. But private companies only care about "return on investment". When ads stop being profitable due to the fact that most views and clicks are not potential clients, the current business model will fall apart.

>most views and clicks are not potential clients
this is the part I don't get. Who the fuck buys anything because of an ad? All an advertisement does for me is make me immediately despise the product or service and all the people involved with it. I have also never known anyone who purchased something because of an ad. And this is especially true for internet ads, since most of them are nothing more than annoying interruptions that keep you from seeing the content you want to see, that isn't exactly the best way of making a "potential client" like you. I will never understand online ad kikery.

You use this site. Doesn't mean you are special, but you probably can't judge the masses from yourself.
I've been baffled too how much normies can tolerate the internet without an ad-block.
So I can believe that these things have an effect on their purchase choices.

Depends. The online advertising industry has been a ourobouros-like scam for at least 20 years now. You put up an ad, and then hope that everyone in the chain is being honest. You have to assume that Google is giving you genuine numbers based on their voodoo analytics fuckery, that the sites your ads are being shown on aren’t intentionally generating false engagement, and then finally that ads actually work. I’m very dubious of traditional advertising having any sort of efficacy at this point, the corpo fuckwits have screwed it for themselves by constantly bullshitting people to the point there is a substantial portion of the population that assumes any advertisement is a lie and that they shouldn’t buy it. We’re long past the point where most advertising is just about letting people know your product exists, it’s all about mindfucking the masses into thinking they need it.

Nowadays of course, marketing firms are a bit more savvy. You get the shit like obvious paid influencers, which are going to rapidly become just as ineffective due to pre-existing mistrust of any and all advertisements. But then you also get “woke” shit, where if you put an obnoxious diverse character into your product, you immediately get all the right wing grifter typed to bitch and moan about it. Even better, the lefty types will then start to push it simply because the “bad guys” liked it. This goes both ways, but the “woke” style grift is lower stakes.

Advertising is ultimately a moral hazard when taken past the point of informing people of the existence of your product. The internet makes it easy (were it not for all the marketing SEO slop that is also disingenuous) to research and find products yourself, to determine based on objective measures as well as personal requirements what you want most. I think most of the modern ad industry is now shifting to focus on exploiting children, since they’re the one group I think advertising reliably works on
