I’m not a crypto bro but there was a time a couple years back that I was intrigued by the technical aspects of XMR (at a high level; I’m not a programmer). Wasn’t there supposed to be a forthcoming major overhaul of Monero with Seraphis and Jamtis? Whatever happened to that? Has development in general just slowed way down since 2023? If so, why?

>A group has 51% of the hashrate
>This is supposed to scare me because ??

Glowies have 100% control of BTC and other crypto at all times dues to being able to view all fiat transactions and follow the money easily through every other chain.

All it takes to make Monero secure is hosting my own private node which I can do on a mini PC, I could even use my old raspberry pi if I wanted to, its still extremely fucking hard to impossible to actually accurately trace transactions all the way back to source even if they had 75% control.
Its still fine, this does need to be addressed but you'd still have to be committing fraud worth tens of millions to be worth the effort to track through this.
Anonymous No.106232806
>>106230009
if someone can obtain a majority hashrate for any duration then the network becomes centralized. a centralized network means someone is controlling it. the controller can manipulate transactions. they could block transaction from ever reaching the ledger or fork the entire network to double spend transactions. former coins that became centralized died, faith gets shattered (see ETH). the idea someone now or in the future could just come along and take control triggers extreme paranoia in cryptobros.

some NSA sponsored shitcoin called qubic was able to gain a little over 40% hashrate and rearrange 6 blocks. they then wewnt on to claim "we did a successfull 51%, we control monero now lololol", then they got DDoSed, pissed and shat themselves, and that's pretty much where we are today

Deepbit's mining pool also reached 50% on Bitcoin back in the day.
So, uh...did Bitcoin die?
People being stupid about not spreading hash around pools has happened many times over the years.
It's really a nothing burger.

Apparently its a load of horseshit, however that's not gonna stop news sites from repeating the same thing over and over about "monero got 51% attacked its over!". They are literally marketing their shitcoin which is valued at less than a cent right now talking about "using AI in crypto".

https://miningpoolstats.stream/monero
Even if all of unknown was owned by Qubic, they at most would have 23% of the hashrate, which is no where near the 51% attack threshold.

tl;dr start mining monero

Anyone notice how when xmr hits the $400 range suddenly some news drops it back down to $200? First it was news about how the IRS found a way to track transactions, and now its news about how the network isn't secure.

I'm not pointing fingers but it's extremely odd.

ok, yeah, but that issue that "everyone" is talking about: "trust was shattered"... to me, that means that now monero is just like any other crypto, a shitcoin not worth anything if what i really seek is keeping the alphabet boys out of my finances. if its main use case and reason to exist is shattered, then i'll be better sticking with cash, precious metals, and old-school agorism/counter-economics for the time being
