Tell /g/: Orange website is now AI slop only
For some time now, interesting submissions [1] are routinely flagged or demoted from the front page, while asinine AI content [2] and vibe coding tutorials [3] stay for ages. /active is basically the only bearable to browse the site at the moment, other than alternative frontends.

I assume the root cause is that YC itself has invested a lot of money into low-quality AI companies and therefore has a strong incentive to hype the technology, but they have essentially rendered the site useless for a large portion of people as a result.

Have you moved to other sites with more interesting niche tech content and discussion?

Agree. Some of these vibe coding articles bordering on parody.
But in the comments are lapping it up.

AI tools. I just dont see how they even improve on time, let alone on quality.

It always has been a place for pseudo-intellectuals to garble about their delusions, lobste.rs is supposed to be a "better place" but has gay SF moderators so you will be banned by calling troons out or by being against africans.

>The sky is blue!
You see, the sky is not really blue [1] it's just a phenomenon called rayleigh scattering [2] it is just the elastic scattering of electromagnetic radiation (including light) by particles (like molecules in the atmosphere) that are much smaller than the wavelength of the radiation.

I just use the alternative frontends (hcker.news in column mode is my favorite currently). I never post though, only lurk. As much as I hate some parts of it, the SNR on orange plebbit is still higher than actual plebbit, or lobsters or lemmy or whatever (or /g/ for the most part, though obviously I'm still shitposting here).

its a solved problem

the above might sound nebulous, but the idea is to have an intermediary representation whose rules would rule out incorrect programs
kinda like the idea with rust but the difference being rust wanted to keep control granularity, and offset the work to the user, when MBD focuses on a high level approach, and then code generation based on generic constructs

programming is not what llms are about

at one level llms are about creating agi
but the assumption that every concept has already been defined, and can even be pu t into words is wrong
at another level, the technology is leveraged for speculative reasons, picrel
so the hype train is fueled with cocaine instead of coal

What I don't understand is what are all these tech companies actually producing if they've recently laid off tons of people and their remaining employees are all syncing their sleep cycles to maximize the amount of tokens they can get from AI vibecoding chatbots?

What software are they writing?
What new SaaS products have come up in the last several months?
What new open source projects have made waves in the last year?

You can't name a single one, this is becoming the end-all-be-all of surrogate activities.

>this is becoming the end-all-be-all of surrogate activities.
no, they produce hype
the very same mechanism which makes g hate crypto
founders drum up hype
investors pump the value
and then smart money dumps/rugpulls everyone
id expect something like 70% of startups filing for bankruptcy within 1 year
in my mind startups are the same for venture capital as crypto is for normniggers
i think VC still makes its money bc among all the companies they invested 1M at the very beginning, they need 1/1000 of them to go to a bilion to get to netto zero on their investment
and i think most people can get a better score than 1/1000 bets succeeding...

They are developing MCP servers, agentic frameworks, Claude Code plug-ins… what more do you want?

There was a good post about Meta leaks today, but it got buried and no one is posting about it here that I can tell. There are also a few okay schizo posters that I like to follow.

I think the most suitable real world task for LLMs is creative writing and roleplaying, where inherent properties of their architecture are actually advantages (unlike in Serious Business, where suddenly normal functioning becomes a “hallucination”), but paradoxically most companies are trying to marginalize and police this use case.
