Anonymous No.106231591
I am still comfy with DDR4, I guess. As long as the motherboard is fine I will gonna keep using it.

are those cringe metal covers necessary for cooling or something?

ECC speeds are barely faster than what I have with 128GB of 3200MT/s DDR4, it only now has doubled to 6400MT/s. I'm just waiting to see if CAMM2 and DDR6 improves the situations but shit kinda sucks right now in terms of options, I may wait out the entirety of AM5.

No reason to upgrade. I'm still on a i7-6700T

So is AM6, so I guess another reason for them to change.

I cannot do this.
>ECC
;_; I am weakling man, with tiny RAM hands.

Here is what I can work with:
4x DDR5, Maximum Memory Capacity 256GB
Memory Support 7000+(OC)/ 6800(OC)/ 6600(OC)/ 6400(OC)/ 6200(OC)/ 6000(OC)/ 5800(OC)/ 5600(JEDEC)/ 5400(JEDEC)/ 5200(JEDEC)/ 5000(JEDEC)/ 4800(JEDEC) MHz
Max. overclocking frequency:
โ€ข 1DPC 1R Max speed up to 7000+ MHz
โ€ข 1DPC 2R Max speed up to 6400+ MHz
โ€ข 2DPC 1R Max speed up to 6000+ MHz
โ€ข 2DPC 2R Max speed up to 5600+ MHz

Supports Intelยฎ XMP 3.0 OC
Supports Dual-Controller Dual-Channel mode
Supports non-ECC, un-buffered memory

Intel really needs to match AMD here with providing unofficial support on Linux for their desktop platform. It's a pretty bad time all around when they still have low hanging fruit like this they aren't willing to give up and they can't compete.
Anonymous No.106231833
DDR5 just hasn't been as meaningful an upgrade over DDR4, as DDR4 over DDR3. I'll wait for DDR6.
Anonymous No.106231959
>>106231546 (OP)
I'll stick with my 5700x and just wait for am6. Not being able to pop in another 2 sticks of ram is completely unacceptable. So is memory speed limitations from the memory controllers on top of that. Ddr5 is an abortion. The next gen will have memory controllers in the ram.

my 12400f and 3200 ddr4 is doing just fine and if I have to wait until 27/28 for am6/ddr6 then so be it

The odds your 12400f and 3200 ddr4 will be doing just fine in 27/28 are pretty good.

I have the upper end of AM4 on my system and use an X3D CPU, so RAM speeds donโ€™t really matter. Also, I have yet to fully saturate my 64GB of RAM.
Anonymous No.106232882
I still don't know what faster RAM does.
Linus did a DDR3 ram test a long time ago and the result is using single channel ram doesn't even affect FPS all that much, let alone higher frequency dual channel ram
