At my faGman job, you got a Linux workstation and a laptop of your choice. Most people chose a Mac, especially the types you'd see walking around most often -- managers and non-engineers.

my coding bootcamp instructor used a mac. when i asked why despite the fact that he claimed he studied linux in college, he said linux requires a great deal of commitment that most people aren't willing to give.
When i asked him how he deals with Apple's fixed hardware that cannot be upgraded or swapped out, he said that stuff was mainly for gamers. its the gamers who like customizing their computers, not people who do work.

If you're in Fagman for 98% of your work will be done in a powerful linux machine in the cloud that you either ssh into directly or connect to through your IDE. You work on linux. Your choice of portable web browser does not matter. For that, Mac just werks.

My only problem with thinkpads especially older ones is the bad screens, not performance they are more than enough for browsing and work.

AUO, innolux, CSOT, BOE. All garbage chinese IPS and the colors are always terrible. Reds look orange.

Its fine for a work laptop but it can never be a really true replacement for a desktop 1080p screen with 100% P3. Note this doesnt have to be expensive. Even my pixio chinese monitor which has freesync, 144hz 100% P3 was only like 85$ on sale from amazon.

The day old thinkpads get OLED chinese 14" screens is the day I will switch full time to my t440p.
