It's not about revision it's about how people of different age group interacted with the assistant when they were around.
If you actually wanted to do work, they were a worthless pain in the ass.
If you were a kid they were a cool distraction that you would click animated on and watch them go. https://youtu.be/p7qD6uNx9JE video related For this group the assistants were nothing more than toys.

No shit groups A & B have different views on how they remember assistants.

I like louis and all, and his heart is in the right place trying to get people to become aware of the state of tech company overreach, but I think he vastly overestimates clippy not becoming the current thing(tm) to support; a trend for easily swayed brainlets online to set to their icons and profiles, roleplaying online, before they forget about it and move on to the next thing to make their personality for a few weeks.
It's a shame, really. I think he seriously expects people to start caring as much as he does, but he's in for a slow rude awakening.

This is naive.

I want an end to the oppressive tech dystopia just as much as Rossman but this is a pathetically weak way to try to do it.
Any tech boss looking at this is immediately going to think
>"oh they're against me, but all they're going to do is change their profile picture? okay?"
To quote Pompey, who played a pivotal role in the destruction of Roman democracy, who after forcefully taking control of a neighbouring city, when the local governer complained of the flagrant disregard of the laws, he responded
>"stop quoting laws, we carry weapons"

Big tech has nothing to fear from people who dislike them but who do nothing to stop it. The modern world has become so dependent on technology that we no longer even have a choice to "vote with our wallets". You will buy their products whether you like it or not, and they know that.
Changing your pfp to a clippy is reassurance to big tech that you are not a threat to them

Only if you're just making Clippy your PFP and doing nothing else. The idea is that Clippy represented an earlier phase in consumer technology, when tech companies genuinely wanted to make doing business or creative work easier and not plunder every cent they could from you, and that hopefully people who take up the Paperclip as their mask perform small acts of civil disobedience against their company trying to make the lives of their customers worse.
