>Vim turns you into a master typist. Emacs turns your computer into a writer’s desk.

Are either of these technologies worth learning for a pure prose writer, or should I just stick to Word/LibreOffice to write my manuscripts like a normie?

If you're only working with pure text and don't do much formatting then I barely see a benefit in using vim or emacs. If you some types of patterns you repeatedly need to use, vim or emacs could help with that a lot.

I write in markdown so I can export to PDF easily. The editing process can require a fair amount of text manipulation.

I personally couldn't use Word without my blood pressure rising so I learned org mode with evil bindings and that's what I'll use for the rest of my life

keep in mind this is a huge time waste and maybe it's better for you to stick to word if you don't really care that much

I wrote an entire novel in org-mode and exported it to epub without too much hassle. Would not go back to Word.

For free?

My whole idea was to get comfortable in vim or emacs and install a TTY only Debian instance alongside my normal system, because if I'm writing on a GUI I will invariably end up in the browser looking at YouTube videos or cranking my hog to BBW porn. I changed the font, size and colorscheme of the TTY, installed tmux and vim.. but am considering setting up a legitimate writing environment inside emacs with evil mode instead of using dict with wordnet, wikipedia2tet, w3m, etc.

I do it for free.

/g/ is a good place to ask this but I wonder if >>>/lit/ would have input on this.
Overlap in the other direction.

Then I'd stick with vim

pandoc?

Yeah, I think I used pandoc for the epub conversion, can't remember exactly.

shut the fuck up, retard.
>>106245003
It's pretty decent, but IMO it's better to switch to org-mode. You can use pandoc and the end result will be the same anyway.

The editor you use doesn't matter. Just use LaTeX. This way, you can focus entirely on the content of your writing, rather than how it is formatted. It doesn't matter if you do this with vim or Emacs. It doesn't matter if you do this with notepad++. The main thing is that LaTeX will save you a lot of time with formatting.

vim is for code.
LaTeX is for actual writing.
emacs is for autism.

I've tried org-mode to write my notes and film reviews but that shit is just illegible compared to markdown. Add up the absolute insane lengths you have to go to make emacs actually useful instead of an annoyance and you'd end up using literally any other software known to man.
The only advantage vim and emacs have over other similar programs is the fact that they don't use electron. And even then, if you actually want to write instead of messing around with configs, electron apps are well worth it.
