This is a good thing in public. The number of crimes, fraud, and government abuse that gets exposed by public surveillance is a boon to society. And in public, you have no expectation of privacy. If someone fucks you over, you can pull the surveillance footage and have them hanged in court.
The issue is when public surveillance extends into private areas such as the home. All that does is put the surveiled person at risk, since now others can get reputation, fiscal, or safety compromising information.
Funnily enough, privately surveiling the interior of your own home can help protect you too. Criminal cops and swat have been screwed over because the homeowner had their own camera recording the interior of the house, catching any theft or abuse the cops did on camera.
