Why don't youtubers sell their videos?
Why not make physical copies and sell them? Or bundle them with merch?

Musicians do it even though the music is free.

1 million professional creators on YouTube? Seems a bit exaggerated.

>Why not make physical copies and sell them?
Because less than 0.000000001% of their viewers would buy, and moreover in the end they would make a grand total of 10 cents while it would cost them hundreds dollars.

>bundle them with merch?
Do you guys remember when you were kids and on your favorite cereals there was a picture of a singer you hated? I usually gave the collectable thingy to some other kid in exchange for a few sweets.

because the videos themselves aren't worth jack shit, but your fleeting attention is worth a lot, apparently.

Almost everything produced on Youtube is not worth owning/possessing a physical/personal copy of. It's almost entirely ephemeral trash.

maybe some shit that's been ripped from a physical medium to begin with and was uploaded, or le dank maymays. most shit is completely fucking braindead. ask anyone what videos they've watched in the past days, and they'll say they don't remember.

YouTube videos are neither cinema nor timeless, on average.

YouTube had the ability to make interactive movies, but then they took away the annotations those depended on.

I'll check it out later. I don't really have time for half an hour of YouTube today.
I've sure it's fairly entertaining, but you're not really disproving his point. The video is about a specific instance of video game developer drama. That's probably medium to high on the ephemeral scale.

most of the youtube videos are who want to see the news of yesterday and get angry about it?

Its a (funny) historical event which is evergreen.
Like people still care about historical Rome n shit despite Itality being a shithole with africa tier productivity today.
People have a fascination for history and wonder how people of old were so dumb and uneducated and how we're all so much better people today.

>historical event
It's certainly an event, but calling it historical is not really accurate.
Is this actually going to change anything in a meaningful over the next 20 years? Even the next 5 years? It's just ephemeral drama about something meaningless in the long run when you really get down to it.
I'm not saying every video on YouTube has to be high philosophy or anything, but Fallout 76 really isn't capital H "History".

because noone would watch them. Most youtubers would lose like 90% of their viewers if they actually paywalled all their videos. Music is very different thing than mediocre tech podcasts and ASMR roleplays.

I remember machinima experimented with this shortly. Arby and the chief had a interactive episode with YouTube where you clicked the annotations to get different routes in the video.

Some channels that take up like 2TB I have on a 2TB HDD, does that count as a physical copy?
Reminder to download everything you want to keep before the ID shit is in.
