you really are retarded if you think distros are different these days.
The only difference is how woke their maintainers are and if you don't have a job (so you are using arch).

It's solid and it will be there for me tomorrow or a month from now the same way it as there for me yesterday or a month ago.
>but you don't get new software!
I don't get new major versions, true. But new major versions introduce bugs and that's not desirable to me. Meanwhile, what's there gets patched and gets security updates. And if I need new software, I can just run something like Arch or Fedora in a container using distrobox and get whatever I need there.

Technically new app versions, can be installed via backports, 3p repositories, flatpak or manually.

It's an old troll argument, added that Windows users started to believe "updates the new antivirus".
Some might people actually believe they need latest of everything.

>Technically new app versions, can be installed via backports, 3p repositories, flatpak or manually.
Very true, but personally I don't really like messing with the base too much. At that point I could just as easily install something else as I've been doing this for years and am comfortable with a bunch of distros (including Gentoo).
I decided a while back that I just like having something I'm dead certain is going to work.

Ubuntu is built on the Debian package manager and used to build upon Debian repositories. The main use case for Ubuntu itself on the desktop is the fact it has more frequent updates for desktop applications.

...if you use non-LTS Ubuntu or use snaps.
Both Debian and Ubuntu have ~2 years between releases, and repos don't get version updates during a release, only security updates.

there are a lot of more packages on freebsd than in debian. You can even install software like searx-ng or similar software via the package manager. So it's easier.
That and honestly I find it easier to manage a freebsd system than a linux system but that might just be my autism

bugs introduced by upgrades are rare and patched instantly in shit like fedora. on debian you already start with bugs that have been fixed long ago, youre stuck with them for years.
>well, you can use backports, flatpaks and source
i dont think they are ideal, but yeah you can throw them on top of your system.

My setup is dwm over plain xorg and not even any display manager, all Trixie did was break a bunch of stuff in subtle ways including nuking GTK2 and since I'm already installing my most used software and other stuff straight from upstream to avoid bugs introduced in Trixie, I can probably just stay on bookworm indefinitely.

In my experience, Debian stable is still an order of magnitude more stable than Ubuntu LTS, and more importantly, they work really hard to make upgrades reasonable without a full reinstall.
I have a laptop that I installed Debian Squeeze on in 2011 and I've been dist-upgrading it through stable releases ever since. Although admittedly I don't do much with that laptop, I've never come close to that kind of longevity tracking Ubuntu LTS.
