Pretty much all Pre 4o AI was marketed towards people at the high end of the bell curve.
And then 4o was heavily marketed towards people at the low end of the bell curve- which consequently also appeals to people at the high end of the bell curve.

This is all a psyop. It is fundamentally better than it was, it's just that it was actually quite good before so it's very hard to tell how much better it is without rigorous testing. The good thing about 5 is not having to toggle a bunch of buttons depending on question, which should've been like this from the start, but AI should always be "thinking harder" instead of giving quick answers.
