Why do modern operating systems not have a bootup sound? Windows 95, 98, XP and 7 had very soulful bootup sounds desu. It's memorable for the brand, so why isn't it done?

And

Windows 7 too but the feeling isn't as strong
I recognize 98 but I was like up to 5 or 6 when I last heard it. Too long ago
95 I would have been like 3 or 4 last time I heard it.

Before, you'd turn the computer on and do something else while it was booting up so the sound would alert you that process had finished. Nowerdays you turn your computer on and it's ready to use almost immediately.

Oddly I remember the 95 sounds rather well, but not 98. Probably drug and alcohol consumption ramping up in my teens.

pre-enshittification.
They actually used to care and go out and get people who are really, really good at such fucking things to produce even these small details. And it was SATISFYING, you had the feeling, SOMEONE ACTUALLY FUCKING CARED when they made this, every time you booted your PC. And AI, value engineering and fucking jeets were nowhere to be seen. It's the world we've lost, all of it.

It's insane how many and different feels these sounds evoke in me

Having to waste time on some startup jingle is smooth brain shit. With a good nvme my shit reboots in 5 seconds I'm back to the desktop and launching apps, no time for it.

Yes, I'd turn on my computer and once I heard the THX sound, knew it was ready to go.

It solved a problem.
>press power on button
>have to wait a few minutes
>go do something else
>computer loudly warns you when it's ready

Now it's
>press power on button
>marketing doesn't want you to know that it will still take some minutes, so let's pretend the problem no longer exists (oy, if it's taking too long, you just need to buy a new pc)
>remove useful feature

It wouldn't even occur to them that they should provide some acknowledgement of delay (or progress) now. Unless they figured out how to show pre-boot ads.

Windows has always had one. It sucks these days.
Ubuntu added one very recently. It's cool.

>pre-boot ads
Please don't give them ideas.
>when online download a custom boot screen and silently set it up for next boot
>suddenly a new anti-uptime meme in normalfag spaces
Nah, they already put enough propaganda on the lock screen, and they can track you better when it's like that than when it's actually off, so I don't think they'd go for that route.
