>News & Rumors
RTX 50 Super: might launch in Q4 '25, 24GB VRAM for 5070 Ti & 5080 Super, 18GB for 5070 Super.
ASUS WOLED with TrueBlack Glossy film launched (XG32UCWMG, XG32UCWG). Limited availability.

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: worth considering if it's significantly cheaper than the 9070 XT.

Intel 13 & 14th gen i7/9 -K CPUs: BIOS update required due to reliability issues. Recommended to set a CPU VR voltage limit (1.4 or 1.45V).

>Product Notice
Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/update-on-thermal-putty-on-gigabyte-graphics-cards-after-further-storage-oil-separation-to-an-alarming-extent-and-silence-as-a-strategy/

Avoid updating Gigabyte motherboard's RGB controller firmware, as it can disable board features such as Q-Flash Plus.

only an idiot buys one at this point, well, you were always an idiot to buy it when its hamstrung at 16gigs of vram, but now you're really retarded. Wait for the super refresh later this year, the gains will be huge and the cards will be quasi-future proof. There are a few games that a 5070 Ti can't do native 4k 60fps (Silent Hill 2 remake for one) that a 5080 can. That's its only usecase. If you want to do AI or other work shit then IMO the difference between 5070 Ti and the 5080 is not big enough to be worth it. Only the 90 series is a wortwhile jump.

Going to crosspost here in hopes of some responses.

The extra noise is fanspin when I held it directly against the back of the QNAP, I was moving my phone around the case during the recording.
Any of you got NAS drives to compare to?
This weird periodic scratching noise is what I'm mostly worried about.

Only does this so often if I'm actively copying something onto it, or if I'm browsing things in the file explorer and if opening a video file / seeking the timeline of it.
If this is normal noise I might just keep these. Still worried about long term use as I'm powering it off daily in the long run.
Is this normal?

QNAP TR-004 + 2x WD RED PLUS 8TB drives.
People keep saying this shit is normal, but idk.
The issue is that it also does this noise idle because of PWL. Rubber / low vibration stuff under it doesn't help as the noise is the major part of it.

TL:DR; please tell me if the noises these drives make is normal. Feels like thump+scratch.
I might just return all this and buy 4TB SSDs for the price...

Tiny room, no other place to keep it too. Please advise.
Sidenote as I'm browsing a folder in windows explorer with 100gigs of videos it also hangs a bit every time it makes the noise.I assume it moves the head or something, but still no idea if this is normal as I only got 2TB WD Blues to compare and they are fine.

>I want >120 fps in all games at all times
I do that with the 5070 (non-ti) before framegen in 99.9% of games, in fact I could do that on my old gpu too.
Just buy the 70ti or 90, the 80 card this gen is ridiculously bad.
5080 is a cope card or for people who don't pay attention.
Also the jump from 70 to 80 is usually less than like 20%/25% at 1440p. You would buy the 5070ti over the base 5070 because you're worried about the 12gb.
In some of these ue5 titles or games with heavy rt you're not going to hit 120 regardless of gpu choice even at 1080p (at least not totally consistently)
Framegen on every card other than maybe the 5060/4060 + 5060ti/4060ti you might as well pretty much always use it, 3x/4x on blackwell.

the asus board I got seems to have a much higher build quality than my previous Asrock. Or maybe it's just the AM5 requirements, but I'm surprised at things like memory and pcie using SMD soldering instead of THT. Heatsink feels far heftier too.
It's probably just because it's a much more expensive mobo (went from B550M Steel Legend to TUF B850M Plus), but everything else on B850M is garbage. Let's just hope I don't get fucked up by Asus boards dying in a week.

>i found the GMKtec M7 AMD Ryzen 7 6850H with AMD Radeon 680M for 470€ and was considering buying it and pairing it with an oculink dock later on

amd apus tend to have insanely good iGPUs so unless you want AAA gaming in 4k you might end up being fine with that. Just pair it with fast RAM.
If you can get something with the Radeon 780M it'll be a good 50% faster, and the 880M is a good 50% faster than the 780M. 880M is only in laptop chips for now, it'll come to desktop in the medusa point APU refresh late this year.

>is there a better way to have a low power consumption pc thats good enough for light gaming but allows quickly upping the specs?
Intel machines have lower idle power consumption. 8-20W depending on how deep you go into the rabbit hole of C-states.
with AMD you need APUs (the chiplet interconnects alone eat 5-10W, monolithic APUs can get away with the IO hub running at lower volts), and even then you are aiming at ~20-30W idle power. only way to get lower on AMD side is to get their chiplet-less X600 boards but they are rare as unicorns, Asrock makes the only ones as far as I know (X600TM-ITX, or their Deskmeet X600 prebuilts).

but, intel machines have crappier iGPUs, so if you want iGPU gaming, AMD is your only choice. Intel is better for low power servers.

actually now that I think of it, those mini PC boxes are chipset-less too (I think), so they should have sub-20W power draw even with AMD.

>>106261238
GPU uses 10-20W (lowest I've seen was AMD RX7600 with 3W idle) but multi-monitor can make it worse. hint: use both monitors on the same resolution AND refresh, this will reduce needed memory clocks to nearly the same level as single monitors. That's only 14kWh more a month.

Here's an idea though, I know it will be unpopular, but I started taking heed and it reduced my power usage dramatically: turn the PC off when you are not using it. With fast boot on, you can get the system booting in less than 10 sec. At least on my B550M I can. I heard AM5 boards are very bad in boot times.

modern GPU, especially higher end ones, can use 10-20W idle in single monitor, and can reach twice as that in multi monitor. That would make a single full tower PC idle at 60-70W. That's significantly more than absolutely fucking nothing, especially in Europe where we have completely stupid tiered power prices; over where I live, that sort of machine running 24/7 would be a quarter of the monthly quota and that's before you factor in refrigirators, routers, cooking equipment, TV or any sound systems, file servers, etc. Such a PC + my file server + my AVR/speakers + the AC already put me at 3/4th the way to the 200kWh monthly cap.
I can understand why he wants to minimize his power costs.
It's why I started turning off my PC at night, and I don't even spin up the file server unless I plan on watching movies.

If he uses some low power iGPU machine he can get down to ~30W on an AMD machine, possibly down to 20W with Intel.

It got that way because Merkel and von der Leyen destroyed most of Europes power infrastructure in a bid to transition to green energy (except atomic power was the greenest but they kept closing those as well). Then the Ukraine war meant we can't buy cheap gas from Russia, we have to ship it from the US at exorbitant prices, and now things are fucked.
You should see pics of germany where they are mining for anything that can be used to fuel power plants. They are dozering entire countrysides flat in search for every last piece of lignite they can.

We got a tiered power structure here too, I had to transition from using a videocard to using an iGPU because it seriously reduced the idle power of my PC.

I'm asking because I've bought this tiny chink ATX case last month to sell my old PC in, and I was surprised that for its size, it fit ATX motherboard and GPUs up to 360mm. So now I'm wondering if there are better-made compact ATX cases like that out there.

>Height: 364 mm (14.33")
>Width: 185 mm (7.28")
>Depth: 425 mm (16.73")

>which is even more damning when you see that a lot of mini pcs cap at 75W when playing games with their igpus

Mini PCs don't have a chipset / southbridge, don't have a dGPU, don't have a dGPU running 8x chips of 8GHz GDDR7 memory or 20 fucking VRMs, they don't have the CPU side using 16+ VRM setups either because they don't have to handle 250W 9950X cpus, hell they don't even have a PCIE port. Plus they usually use monolithic chips. All the extra components suck up some power at idle, even if its just a watt, when you have 10 VRMs not doing anything it will add up fast. It's why the lowest end ATX and mATX motherboards tend to be the most power efficient; almost no components.

And because Mini PCs use less power, they can get away with simpler and more efficient power bricks where the efficiency curve reaches the top at lower power levels (It's why I use a 450W Platinum PSU, best efficiency at idle power out of anything).

Look on the used market for 8TB drives. I could get a 8TB Micron enterprise sata drive for ~400€ right now. It's used so it has a few hundred TB written, but with 3.5 PBW endurance, that's nothing.

I already have a Samsung one, I use it as download space for movies I plan on watching. Then I move them to the NAS later. That way I don't have to spin up the NAS as often.

Also desktop chips use their generous thermal leg room to stretch by default. Mini pcs are running a cpu at like 3.9ghz where a desktop might spend the whole time at 5.7 or something. The desktop cpu core will be less than twice as fast and draw a literal order of magnitude more power. The thing is desktops can be optimized for efficiency too though. I had a 10700k I daily ran at 3.5ghz and it ran at like 30 fuckin watts under load for 60-70% of the speed it was pulling 220 watts to achieve on stock.

Plenty of them are, any political party that tries to change that/leave EU is labelled as Russian agents, fascists, etc.
Recently there was presidential election in Romania, an anti EU/anti Ukrainian candidate has won, so the high court cancelled the election and said his campaign was sponsored by Russia, and that guy got arrested, and in repeated election they selected the "proper" candidate.
That's the western democracy.

The thing is you don't select von der Leyen, or anyone from European Commission, they are selecting from between themselves.

On that note, you can disable turbo clocks (AMD calls it PBO I think) and desktop chips will use a fuck ton less power. I have it disabled on my 5600G and it hits some 58C max in stress tests, barely above 50C in games (that's with iGPU). Only saved some 4-5W in idle but 20-30W lower in gaming - with a 65W TDP chip.
It's mostly useful for the thermals though.

But I use an older chip, no idea how this still holds up with newer systems.

You should calculate that yourself, get the kWh/€ number from your power bill and multiply it by the power you use (200W * 24 * 365 for yearly 24/7 usage).

But you are doing something fishy if you use your PC at full load 24/7. You are either doing bitcoin mining / AI training or running 20+ hdd file servers. In which case you could afford the power costs.

The tiered power system is mainly meant to force people into giving a shit about their power costs and not abusing it by running a bitcoin farm or grow weed at home.
An unfortunate side effect is that it killed several local companies who couldn't afford it, but hey, that just means more property they can sell off to multinational companies.

Hell I can set up permanent boost clocks at far far lower voltages on my chip and it would run fine 24/7, there's no reason for the chips to overvolt themselves so much, its what's responsible for the stupid heat and power draw.

But it's easier to just remove the automatic turbo clocks and oh wow chip now runs 30C cooler and entire machine uses 80W instead of 120W (no dGPU).

We already have all the rape our government is doing.
We have hospitals and law enforcement completely gutted and every night we have drugged up mad cunts yelling in the streets (and harassing people during the day). The places where people work are firing the locals and importing filipinos to work while also giving them free housing from our tax money. Our arable lands are taken away to build chinese battery factories which completely poison the land and drinking water in large areas. We have zero say in any of these; if we try to defend ourselves we get fined or put in prison. I'm not getting into the money scams the government is running.

These are all things I've seen happen or know people who had it happen to them.

And on top of that we get giant assfuck taxes on any tech products too, so when I buy a new computer it costs 25% higher. But I hear americans will get that soon as well.

Prices are tiered. You have a certain cost for price below a certain kWh limit. If you cross that line, the € / kWh gets raised significantly.

So if you use 200 kWh and the cap is 210 kWh and you raise your usage to 220 kWh (10% increase), it won't be 10% higher but 200% higher due to you being in a higher tier now (just used random numbers for the example, don't know the actual prices/limits there).

I managed to get my power bill down to less than half by cutting my power usage by only 25% or so, because I was over the cap.

The idea behind it is that people who use that much power are not normal consumers but do some commercial production, or house a lot more people, or are being extremely wasteful. This however fucked up a lot of small companies who now can't afford to run their heating/cooling, for example small stores or restaurants.

>>106262733

>Are people not fed up? Did people vote for this?
>The elitist thesis does not merely assert that in a society the minority makes the decisions and the majority obeys. This is an obvious truism with no power to explain political relationships. That fewer people issue laws, orders and instructions than receive and obey them is a fact scarcely worth commenting upon. The elitist argument is a much stronger one. It is that the dominant minority cannot be controlled by the majority wherever democratic mechanisms are used.
>[...]
>What happens in other forms of government—namely, that an organized minority imposes its will on the disorganized majority—happens also and to perfection, whatever the appearances to the contrary, under the representative system. When we say that the voters ‘choose’ their representative, we are using a language that is very inexact. The truth is that the representative has himself elected by the voters, and, if that phrase should seem too inflexible and too harsh to fit some cases, we might qualify it by saying that his friends have him elected. In elections, as in all other manifestations of social life, those who have the will and, especially, the moral, intellectual and material means to force their will upon others take the lead over the others and command them.

Watching digital foundry they seem to think dx12 itself is problematic how it handles shaders and how it lumps too much onto individual devs.
Then unreal engine 5 is somewhat excused by the fact its used for a lot of stuff and it has to work okay on every application which adds workload that divides the teams attention.
Individual devs have more opportunities to screw themselves than before so smaller teams making overly ambitious games had some big issues on early ue5 versions that didnt natively fix those things. Well behaved games were made on unreal and how many problems you witness depends on the style of game. Corridor walking sims have easier time streaming things or initializing new actors than an open world game with a city full of npcs.

Then theres other more problematic engines. RE engine fucked things royally for dragons dogma 2 and monster hunter.

Well I lied. I could probably get 24" VA monitor that would have better colors. I will consider it, it's only 100 Euros or so.

Does ram speed and timings really matter? there's a 32gb ddr4 ram that has cl22 3200 that's pretty cheap compared to everything else

The black smearing isn't for everyone, but it's not as bad on newer VA panels.

Yes, they directly affect the latency.

Picrel is 100Hz 1080P 24" Philips monitor with VA for ~100 Euros. It only has HDMI though so that's a bit concerning. But I had good experiences with Philips before.

What do you mean by black smearing btw? is it like deep but uneven on VA panels? I don't mind the viewing angles.

What does that mean exactly? i will mostly work and play single player games on it it's not like i'm an e-sports player

MHz is throughput (speed) and timings are latency (acceleration)
A 6000MHz kit with CL40 latency has very fast max speed, but slow on the uptake.
3600MHz kit with CL15 latency would be slower speed, but more responsive.

3200MHz CL22 is very slow. 3600MHz CL18 is very common, try to get at least that.

>Philips monitor
A Taiwanese display conglomerate (TPV, owner of AOC) has bought the rights to produce Philips-branded monitors.

Most new monitors shill flicker-free comfort feature, but few are certified.

With bad latency, CPU-bound games FPS would suffer.
Open world games (Skyrim), online FPS shooters and CPU-heavy sims (CIV, TotalWar etc.) would have stutters, low %1 and %0.1 FPS.

With bad frequency, modern UE5 games & big open world games (MonHun) would suffer.

3200 CL22 is both shit frequency and shit latency. If you're upgrading add literally $10 and get 3600 CL18 instead.

Well I have good relations with nearby retail store clerks and I can return it no problem if it hurts my eyes. There are a bunch of HP, Samsung, Dell, AOC and other monitors up to 170 Euros, but they tend to be 180-244Hz which is a bit too much for me.

I strongly recommend the aoc minileds if you're looking for value. You don't see whatever that webm is showing on these. Worst comes to worst you just return it like you said.
