In my case it's not my smartphone, nor my desktop, it's a tablet, most specifically a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8. In general Samsung tablets are known for their "DeX" mode that makes it resemble a desktop, but mine is a cheaper model so there's none of that, what I do to make it resemble a desktop is to use floating windows, which can be minimized on the corners of the screen, in Spotify's case on that screenshot, and the "Edge Panel" which resembles a taskbar/dock on the side, it works for me.

st is the terminal, the bar is just part of dwm itself, though the modules themselves are actually dwmblocks. I think by default dwm refreshes all modules simultaneously every few seconds, dwmblocks allows you to configure this for each module. As for the icons, they are just unicode characters you can use if you have a Nerd font installed. And yes, I compile everytime I make changes, takes a few seconds.

Figure drawing, over and over and over, paired with anatomy studies. I cannot stress how important these two are. Don't skip the skeletal structure, muscles alone will be of little use. It's a steeply uphill road, but the more you climb, the sweeter and more satisfying it gets. You'll be surprised how good it feels to have a solid grasp on the fundamentals, so much so that you stop needing to look at references for every nook and cranny of the body. Keep at it, anon. I believe in you.

I'm tempted to remove plasma and see about getting a WM. I heard i3 and dwm are good. I saw some fancy animations too. How hard would it be to transfer over?
Anonymous No.106282139 >>106282173
>>106282108
I've used both and I just prefer i3 because it behaves better with most things. The biggest 2 learning curves are designing your configs and getting used to the keybinds, though you can modify the keybinds to your liking as well. dwm is a lot more tough because you'd be modifying the actual source code for both added functionality and things as simple as changing the font or colours rather than using a config file like i3. It might be pretty daunting at first.

If you're using a just werks that came prepackaged with KDE, it would be a little bit of a hassle to uninstall the DE completely and install the WM. If it's something like Arch, you should be fine, just figure out every component you want first before you delete the DE. WMs don't come prepackaged with a Terminal emulator and File Picker i.e., it's kinda like Legos.
Lain Draws No.106282256 >>106282295

Anonymous No.106282295

Bingo, it's tailoring the experience to your liking really. I always want everything tuned to my preferences, so that's what personally draws me into using WMs. I can use any file picker I want, any Terminal I want, any other extra components I want.
I think the best first step though before you dive right in is play with some other Terminals and file pickers first, maybe other components like TUI or CLI versions of tools KDE already packages in and see what feels comfy for you, then start mapping out what your WM setup would look like and what tools in KDE you'll replace with what.
Anonymous No.106282462 >>106282680 >>106284834

I personally prefer dwm. I don't have to think about window arrangement, they organize automatically according to the layout (you can have multiple ones btw). You can customize it using the flexipatch build if you want something simpler as well. But all tiling wms are good if you want a keyboard-centric experience. I'd say to first give it a try by using a tiling script on Plasma (sorry I forgot its name) and see if you like it.
Anonymous No.106282680
>>106282462
Seconded, even though I use i3 these days. flexipatch is a godsend, I use flexipatch st because there is no way I'm gonna sit there doing the patches myself. No need to reinvent the wheel every time, right?

If I remember correctly, I also used xrandr and all I really did was figure out which monitor was which then set the primary monitor, didn't need to do it for my second monitor. It could be a little better with multi monitor setup.
As well, I personally added the line focus_follows_mouse no to my i3 config so I wouldn't do a keybind while hovering over a different window since that was causing me some grief.

Trialing Red Hat on my backup machine as a potential daily driver. To no surprise it really doesn't want to play nice, lol. Drivers are fine, but there's a ton of little pain points, mostly due to the base system being so outdated now. In any case RHEL 10 is out now, so this system needs reloaded.

Yes, but there's a workstation version for a reason.

Honestly, thanks to Flatpak it's not as bad as one would think. The only issue is stuff not available as a Flatpak/AppImage that also isn't in the repos. But that's not many applications.

Most of the annoying bits are just older libraries, or odd bugs that don't have anything to do with it being Red Hat as such.

Are DE and distro really relevant to things like the ability to run games? Could you not just do it with a simple WM too? I thought the only real differences between distros were the package managers they use and the software and DEs that come preinstalled, and that DE is mostly just about workflow and aesthetic preferences.

It's also an answering machine.
It can no longer track the current date as its maximum year is 2023, so I set it to 1997 (28-year solar cycle).
I have a separate fax printer that can directly send faxes from the PC so I use that instead. I don't receive any fax and spam phone calls are rare so it's just sitting there, really.

But I use these CRTs only for games. They're better than modern OLEDs for that, since they don't suffer from sample&hold motion blur. Was playing KCD the other day, it just looks so damn beautiful at night with a tube's perfect blacks and natural 2.4 gamma.

I don't really get that either, the result of it is used only in the graph, where the math makes sense to have it as a float in 0.0f-1.0f range, as it's multiplied with the graph height.
Perhaps they just thought the purpose of a "ramstat" was to return something else than just a float fraction of used memory.

Is there a linux distro that just werks without the autism of linux mint?

I really hate nemo file manager.

Why isn't there just a plain linux OS that actually looks good and functions good. I don't like cinnamon and I don't want to use mate or xfce.

i often play left 4 dead with my friends and its very much fun. in both half lifes i usually just sit in the deathmatch corners and its pretty fun. i dont play counter strike that much, i personally think counter strike became bullshit ever since csgo. ive actually finished terraria vanilla with a friend and we are trying out the calamity mod. i play portal 2 coop with my friend, i have finished the singleplayer part (as with most games shown too). what is wrong with me? im a casual, that's what. im especially not fond of modern competitive games, because theyre bullshit in the same way games like csgo and cs2 are

if you can't figure out the workflow of a tiling wm you have a learning disability. tiling wm's are objectively better at accomplishing tasks than window managers like xfce
