you're better off being a thinker. most of the shit people wrote is absolute nonsense, and it carves reality-tunnels that shape your reality. some may seem useful but actually aren't

i cant focus after just a few paragraphs and struggle to retain anything and eventually give up 90 percent of the time.

I keep forgetting in this world being able to sit in silence and do nothing for long periods of time is basically a superpower. Buddhism won but also grim.

Pick up some Hard Case Crime books. They're shlocky trash but are easily digestible to get you into the habit of reading. You can sometimes find them at dollar stores or discount stores for $3

Addicts are literally subhuman, if you can't even make choices you don't deserve to be treated as a being with free will

Not all of them have covers like that. They're gritty detective novels.

just read something you're actually interested in. you're on /g/ so read a book on the history of pedophilia or a book on Ancient Rome (same thing) or something idk

or just learn to have discipline. why do you even want to "be a reader"? are you trying to impress a girl? just read what you want and if what you want is 0 that's ok too

I used to be a big reader. I had to read a lot every day for university, and after finishing the mandatory reading I read some more academic books for fun. But nowadays I'm chronically ill, with pain and fatigue every day, and problems focusing my mind. Probably post covid or something. Reading has become hard and I just binge watch youtube all day.

Approach reading as if you were learning a skill and remain consistent. Until you want to regain your focus more than you want to maintain your internet addiction, nothing will change.
