I've been on 1gbps fiber for 5 years now and I still can't believe how fast it is.
I was on ADSL for 15 years prior and had to plan all my downloads accordingly. Around 1mbps from 2004 to 2005 then got slowly upgraded and peaked at 12mbps around 2008-9

>House was built after fttp rollout in our area but before fttp connections were mandated for new builds
>18th century stonewall cottage across the road from us gets gigabit speeds
>We're stuck on fttc and twisted pair so max speeds around 75mb down
Zero incentive for ISPs to come back and pull new cable for the 6 newer properties on my street. Honestly tempted to just stump up the cost to get it done privately.
