Don't get me wrong but Linus for all intents and purposes just looks like a guy who happened to do right thing at the right time without any real ambition and now has been more or less carried by contributions over the years. He doesn't look like a particularly above average programmer, if anything he's better at managenent duties. But still he failed to take corporate interest into account and his project is slowly being enveloped in it. Linux will most likely implode because of said corporations when he passes.

This. Compared to other 90s *nixes, Linux isn't all that special. The main reason it took off was because it was free (in both senses) and ran on a 386.
