ya, the goose should shout:
>WHO CONTROLS YOUR FIRMWARE???!!
instead. Then it would be correct.
Pixel phones have like 100 MB of proprietary binary firmware blobs and most of this runs even when the phone is off.

A slightly more relevant point, but wouldn't that still be true of any phone you can buy that can connect to a network?

its 100MiB??
what the actual fuck, i actually thought it was more like 8MiB, and that's already bad enough.

celltower modems yes, the pinephone works around this by connecting it over USB, and there is community maintained firmware for it thats ~99% free
not quite perfect, but almost fully free firmware on a modem connected over USB for isolation sounds a whole lot better to me than proprietary firmware with full control over all of my hardware
i already hate proprietary firmware blobs in my kernel, even if they are only loaded onto other hardware separate from my cpu
but at least thats contained to other shit
yes, i KNOW that pcie is insecure and that you can easily backdoor your whole system with that.

Even if Graphene is what it promises: You won't win any privacy, when you keep on using internet services. The tracking and spying happens via the use of websurfing/app usage.

"Privacy roms" are a scam, because the true datamining happens when you use the internet.

My grandma has a stock android phone. But all she does is occasionly send a message via whatsapp. Her digital footprint is way smaller, than of the average Graphene user, who is surfing the web and using tons of corpo apps.

Graphene OS is a hipster product for people, who don't want to be like the normies, but still want the benefits of normie society. They want to have the cake and it it too. They want the shiny new toy (Google Pixel) but they don't want to be like these stupid normies. But the circle is closing, as soon you notice, that Graphene devs are recommending iPhones are the next best alternative. You are a normie. Always have been.

>Google warns CVE-2025-48530 “could lead to remote code execution in combination with other bugs, with no additional execution privileges needed.” It emphasizes that “user interaction is not needed for exploitation” of this System level flaw.

No way to turn off auto updates, so the feds can just force GrapheneOS to push an update that unlocks your phone.

Can't run Cashapp or bank apps, dev's don't know how to spoof a normal android rom like LineageOS can. Sad.

GrapheneOS has a built in backdoor they left in on purpose that allows other profiles to look at everything on your other profiles just by using a 127.0.0.1 localhost exploit.

>Okay, so they are exploiting the known security hole that localhost communication is still allowed between user profiles, even though user profiles are not supposed to have any means of communicating with each other, and are supposed to be totally isolated from each other.

Whenever Google or GrapheneOS project gets to fix that security hole, that application will likely not function anymore. But until then it should be private, if that is what they are doing.
