Here's the "fitting more shit on the screen" experience:
>get 4K screen with the same DPI as your 23" 1080p display; you can't see shit because the monitor itself is too big
>get 23" 4K screen; you can't see anything because everything is too small.

Anon, you either halve the size of all your screen elements, or you use DPI scaling to make the higher resolution completely redundant. There's no winning with 4K.

It is a 16:9 resolution. 16:10 is nicer. We’re also moving to 5k2k soon and that will be peak.

The real answer is 4K is for getting the same experience as 1080p while sitting farther away from the screen. And it's even better because at this range you can't really see individual pixels anymore, so games/movies look smooth in a way that 1080p just can't match.

other than that just stick to 1080p
1440p if you play video games at home unprofessionally but can not afford a 4K monitor and the GPU required for it

It's still much physically larger without seeing individual pixels. You can go up to 48", as that is equivalent to 4 x 24" 1080p monitors. Then if you use normal scaling everything will still be the same size or you can scale it up and have a larger picture for everything.

This. 1080p is for televisions. I have never had a 1080p monitor other than laptops. The goat to me was a 16:10 2560x1600 I got in 2009. I would like a 16:10 3840x2400, that would be a supreme goat.

I'd say 1080p is the sweet spot. Videos look very good, games can run reasonably well.
As others noted, 720p is still fine too, especially on 20" or smaller screens.

When playing War thunder, The char 2c Bis is capable of blowing up basically any tank it meets and the entire gimmick is that you play in arcade mode and you fenangle with the cursor until you see the red outline of an enemy tank, and so long as they stay still, you fire, and as soon as the shell gets to their location they are dead.
The higher the resolution, the easier it is to pull this little trick off. I used to play World Of tanks, but I don't anymore, I don't even play War Thunder anymore, I just play that one tank in war thunder. The game is simply a portal to allow me to drive that one vehicle.

I have a 4K 32" set to 125%. In terms of usable desktop real estate it's the equivalent of a 3072x1728 32" display at 100%. So comfortably more space than 1440p, while also having noticeably sharper text.

Anonymous No.106296061

Aperture grills don't really have this problem, since their vertical resolution is infinite. You will get more fidelity even pushing ancient .30mm pitch AGs to 1200p.
But most AGs in 2000s were .24mm and those easily "resolve" 1536p.

My vision's starting to go, I needed glasses for the first time three years ago. I don't know much about monitors but i was thinking of getting a dual 1440p 27" oled setup for my pc. I'm not really a hardcore gamer (I've been playing Kenshi recently) but I'm taking a "learning Python" course to get a certificate, and I have the videos for the class going in ine monitor and the Mu editor in the other. Will that make the text more clear over my repurposed 21" dual 1080p monitors I stole from a closed office?

Take the 32" 1440p pill.
But if you do vidya and don't want to get fucked sideways by poor optimization and GPU price gouging, you could keep a separate 1080p and play on it when you have to. "Once you go X you can't go back" is a shill meme.

4K bluray and having more screen real estate on desktop. Maybe video editing if you do that. For streaming, the bitrate is lower than 1080p bluray and most of that is the audio quality. For gaming, you're going to use 1440p or DLSS/FSR.

1440p is perfect.
>more workspace
>modern oversized UIs are now perfect size
>high enough resolution to combat TAA blur
>no display compression at high refresh rates like on 4K
Realistically 4K is now optimal for general purpose gaming due to the new DLSS new upscaler, but 1440p is better for non-gaming and is overall more versatile.
