For PC, it's a room size and distance to monitor issue.
For home theater, it's usually overpriced for what you get, so building from scratch is the better option. Prepackaged surround sound needs to be at least half of what they're charging for the quality level of planned obsolescence.

You can really only join the wait community and let companies die from inflation line goes up or capitulate. This hiss issue is something I hear super often with all kinds of studio monitor speakers. Kind of fucking crazy that this seems to be so common and accepted, honestly. I keep seeing people mention how some level of hiss is "normal" even, despite the fact that the hi-fi stuff is often whisper fucking quiet. I don't understand how this is acceptable to people.

I guess it happens because some of them at least seem to be made without volume control, as in the volume control is expected to come from the audio interface / mixer / whatever they're plugged into by controlling the signal going into them. Makes sense to some degree, because you probably don't want to reach to your speakers in order to control the volume, they may not even be within arm's reach in the first place. But this means that any noise on their inputs is amplified full tilt at all times and as such can become clearly audible, which is honestly total ass.

Standard USB3 ports IIRC are only rated for 5V and like 900mA, that's a tiny 4.5W. I don't think you're going to get any decent sound in that tiny power budget, at least not for good quality music. If you just want to hear computer beep boops and video voice over it's probably going to be fine.
>I have to use some little fucking box called Rog Hive for my PC and the amp in it is dogshit
Alright but I don't see the connection, why do you need speakers to be on USB *EXCLUSIVELY* because of that? Like it's not alright to have some DAC connected to USB and then powered speakers or an amplifier plugged into the wall? Why does it all need to run off this ROG Hive thing's USB?

Plugging the same speakers directly into the motherboard on my previous PC had probably like 2.5x the volume, which is what's causing the problem

I'm just trying to avoid having to use extra doodads, if I could get away with not using the hive I would, but without this thing, I literally don't have a functioning 3.5mm on my pc
I was trying to avoid using the 3.5mm was my point

If it's not due to the Hive being worse than the motherboard I don't have any clue why suddenly the speakers are so much quieter

If you just want to avoid the 3.5mm output on that Hive thing then all you need to do is get some sort of USB DAC and plug a wall-powered amp or speakers into that and you'll get good quality sound that can be as loud as you want. Getting good speakers that are just USB powered isn't a thing, but good USB DACs certainly exist.

Anonymous No.106296325 >>106296406
>>106296296
Thickness requirement kind of depends on the length of the cable and how much current you intend to push through it, as well as what the wire is made of (pure copper wire is better and more expensive, aluminium is worse but cheaper). In practical terms I'd say as long as you don't get some ultra-thin cheap shit it's going to be fine and you won't notice any audio issue.

Believing that a $2000 set sounds better than a $150 set just because you've spent more money and didn't do any objective measurements, AKA the #1 reason people claim the super expensive speaker sets are superior and buy into snake oil audiovoodoo BS like magic cables.

>Believing that a $2000 set sounds better than a $150 set
If you spend the money properly there's no reason this should be a mere belief. You could stupidly spend $2000 and intelligently spend $150 and come out ahead with the cheaper purchase of course. But if you apply yourself to the problem and have either a $150 budget or a $2000 budget, you will always get better sound with the $2000 budget. Every single time.

>didn't do any objective measurements
You're against that though, you put all your faith in random A/B testing with random people who may or may not even be musically literate, listening to random music they may or may not even know. That's not objective measurement. It's subjective by definition.
