What do you guys think smartphones in a decade or 2 will be like?
Do you think smartphones in a decade or 2 will be used more for productivity and even desktop gaming moreso than laptops or even actual desktops? Why not continue investing in the advance and technology of smartphones so they can match desktop computer performance for productivity and even gaming be it emulators or steam or gog.

Hopefully, fully open source hardware and software.

>match desktop computer performance
you're chasing a moving target
modern smartphone chipsets are already faster than desktops of years past
the issue is interface, without a large screen and keyboard you'll forever be gimped until BCI or whatever

What about a built in quality projector system for the smartphone? Or how about a USB projector that is quality and the light bulb in it is replaceable.

no, because you have very limited access to them without root and they are not indepentent platform, in the sense that you can't really develop software on it. Technically you could do work on them with some wireless peripherals and cloud tools but this workflow is dystopian af, and would still be inferior to desktop computer.

I think software is an even bigger problem.
Moving to a unified architecture would be awesome.
Everything arm based. So software would be arm compatible as well.
You can't run your windows software on your iphone or android.
Apple did good work in this direction but still, their software and userbase is miniscule compared to what's available in windows.

I want a device that can be a personal phone and computer at the same time. And when I want more power I would use something like a thunderbolt cable and connect to peripherals

projectors require a surface to project onto and lots of power or a dark space
very inconvenient

>>106292976
your phone perfectly capable of remoting into a machine that could run all the software you want, the issue is still the interface

Foldable phones will have replaced classic laptops and desktops for 99% of the people in 20 years. It will be sufficient for the usecase of 99% of the people.

Rage, rage against the dying light my friend

Zoomers cannot use a computer to the same extent you can expect from your average millenial or Gen X’er. They are literally tech illiterate, bound to the confines of mobile phones, tablets, the cloud and apps

Windows will move to ARM to enable killing x64 CPU production, in addition to the performance benefits. ARM will be pozzed against FOSS at the manufacturer level. It’s over soon.

They release new flagship premium phones every year, surely they're making upgrades on Android phones like Samsung and motor and Google right? That has to go somewhere

Foldable phones will break if you flip them enough times, bricks structured smartphones don't have that.

for now, and regardless the rest of my points still stand. Console/“PC” gaming will obviously continue developing into hyperrealistic VR/AR environments. But for office and home use, not centered on these hyperrealistic media but productivity, phones will replace traditional laptops and desktops.
>formfactor
Portable keyboard and USB-C monitor, or just plug in a USB-C cable(=power, video, accessories) at any desk like you do with a laptop now

Tablets will all be folding phones.

You guys seem to miss the point. Smartphones are societal control devices. They don’t get “cool” because the “market” asks for it or whatever. They only get the features corporations and governments require to turn you into sheep.
Smartphones and computers were never analogous.
