Why does the Rust subreddit have so many paid accounts praising Rust?
Yes, the Rust Foundation does spend a significant proportion of its budget on paying people in poorer countries and elsewhere to evangelize Rust, according to the Rust Foundation's own website. But this is still ridiculous. Why is r/rust being that obvious with its paid evangelism and bought accounts? Are they also paying poor people to evangelize Rust here on 4chan as well?

It's only popular because it's astroturfed. Remember when Biden's White House took the unprecedented step of demanding people use Rust? Yeah they channeled a LOT of money into shills too. USAID money to be exact.

Whether or not there are USAID money involved, it's just ridiculous. There are some good aspects to Rust, but it is far from a flawless language.

I don't think it was demanded, but a lot of government papers did emphasize Rust repeatedly. And the NSA revealed itself to employ incompetent or corrupt people in one of the papers.

Rust is a fucking nightmare, with its sadistic borrow checker and cryptic errors that make you want to smash your keyboard. The learning curve is a vertical cliff, and the smug community acts like they’ve cracked the code to the universe. It’s overrated as hell. Stick to C++ or Go and save your sanity. No matter how much they shill it and virtue signal about "safety" it will never take off.

Now I'm no rust fan, but doesn't the compiler usually tell you in plain language what you're doing wrong?

What other programming languages have karma farms like https://www.reddit.com/r/rustjerk/ ?
What other programming languages boast about spending lots of money on evangelism on their own website?
How much are you paid?

I told my lefty coworkers that I though rust was 'overengineered crap' recently and they were visibly upset lmao
But really... Programming languages in general are complicated enough without the restrictions Rust puts on top of everything. I don't envy anyone who has to work in it.

Yet Reddit has enormous political and societal influence, heavily manipulated and censored, and there is no good competing alternative of its kind.

A long time ago, I had a reddit account with about 20K karma. At some point I was short on cash, so I googled where to sell it and found some forum, I got an offer pretty quick for 300 bucks and went with it. The guy paid immediately but the scumbags on the forum held the funds for like 2 weeks until I left a bad review for their site, then got all aggressive about removing it and eventually deposited 250.

A year or so after I checked the account for shits and giggles and the guy had used it to scam people buying watches on some subreddit for that, after which they either got banned or closed their account.

Thanks for attending my TED talk.

It's used for "parasite SEO". Reddit threads rank really high in Google searches.
>Post some thread about topic x and link to your site or client's site
>That reddit thread shows up high in Google
>Your website gets high quality backlinks
>Your website now ranks higher
Having an older reddit account makes it easier (looks more legit) and improves the rankings more.

Rust is a psyop by the NSA to get incompetent programmers to be allowed into critical projects with the delusion that using rust removes the potential for CVEs, thus giving them easy backdoors in everything

i'm astroturfing /g/ myself,. but only to enjoy these monologues.
imagine how hilarious it would be for a greek person to see someone creating monologue seethe threads about the greek language, without even knowing its alphabet.
not only that, but attributing some activity in r*ddit to be majorly relevant to the reputation or adoption or fate of the greek language. these threads read just as funny.
actually, that's a bad analogy. because it would require someone, or rather, something, to know zero alphabets, let alone languages, for the analogy to work.

I don't think your post holds, but a lot of people, both government employees, managers, and developers, have been pressured or manipulated into drinking the "Rust is memory safe" Kool-Aid.
https://materialize.com/blog/rust-concurrency-bug-unbounded-channels/
>This experience reaffirms that even in a language like Rust, where memory safety is a cornerstone, the presence of unsafe code and relaxed atomics introduces the potential for subtle and severe errors. Our findings underscore the critical importance of exhaustive CI, robust diagnostic tooling (e.g., ASAN, Valgrind, Miri), and adversarial stress testing.

There are some good aspects to Rust, but also significant downsides, and the Rust community tend to be ridiculously less than honest on those topics.
