THIS PIECE OF SHIT WORTHLESS GARBAGE SOFTWARE IS KILLING ME
CAN'T FIND JACK FUCKING SHIT ON MY COMPUTER
>git clone repo
>try dolphin search to find relevant line of code (That I know that exists, checked commits)
>no results
>try kfind
>ditto
>check balooctl6
>run balooctl6 failed to check if some error happened
>nope, I should be good to go
>run balooctl6 index /folder/ to manually index it
>nope, it is already indexed you should be able to find
>search still not working
>try baloosearch6, you know, it's official tool
>nope, nada
So much for muh 'KDE Integration'
And I haven't even touched how it likes to go haywire every once in a while and hog a CPU core non-stop until reboot/shutting the service down.
Does anyone know any alternative that isn't pure trash?
It should be considered a crime against humanity that many distros ship this absolute junk.

Just use grep and find, indexing file search is shit and dumb. The only reason Windows needs it is because IO on windows is dog shit.

Well fuck man as embarrassing as it is to say I've never read the manual for grep before.
Didn't know it could go recursively.
Thanks lol, you saved my ass.
Baloo still sucks balls though.

Well you weren't kidding I was able to grep through more than a million files totaling >1tb in less than 3 minutes.(skipped binaries though)
Holy hell that's fast for such task.
With ag and rg, it only takes a few seconds.
>>106297333
Cope.
>find . -type f (-iname) "*query*"
This is blazing fast too for matching filenames.

So you're admitting that built in indexing solution in Windows is shit so you have to use third party alternative?
Anonymous No.106298647 >>106302126
>>106296065 (OP)
Sounds like you didn't enable contents index. Even then I doubt it should find exact line of code in indexed file.
Anonymous No.106298655 >>106302126
>>106296065 (OP)
Indexing is fucking retarded when you have tools like find, fd, and grep at your disposal.

Have you tried Microsoft Windows? It's a great alternative to our traditional operating systems. It can do absolutely everything and it literally just works, right out of the box. That OS has the potential to become the global market leader before the end of the decade.

I am a huge fan of KDE, and OP is right. Baloo kinda sucks ass at its one job. I encounter the same exact thing OP is experiencing as well as when it sometimes just goes haywire and maxxes a CPU core for no reason. I don't get it.

It's one of KDE's big weaknesses right now overall.

Nope, it was enabled

Why the fuck it shouldn't? What is the point of indexing contents if it won't find them?
It works half a day and a reboot later btw, but it should have worked back then.

linux tranny when someone uses a different tool on windows :OOOO
linux tranny when theythem has to use 50 different scripts and programs to 1/10th of said windows tool
:DDDDDD
also the "indexing solution" can be as shit as it wants because NTFS' isnt, which enables you to search whatever the fuck you want instantly, unlike on linux where cocksuckers like >>106297570 either never used Everything or are just blatantly lying

You fucking retard. It obviously hasn't updated the index. If you want instant search use grep -Rie or better yet install Mac OS since you obviously don't actually like Linux.

For anyone who isn't a baiting retard, but who is drawn into this thread cause you look for the best way of searching (without indexing):

Install ripgrep-all, Dolphin will automatically use that and it can look through pretty much everything.
Disable baloo, because any file indexing is retarded.
Anonymous No.106302516
>>106302366
>install Mac OS
Mac can only search via index, it can not search through recent changes.
But iToddlers worship any crap, so this might actually be a solution for OP.
Buy a mac, have a worse experience, but cope.
Anonymous No.106302653
Baloo is basically malware, but even that is generous since malware usually functions.

Those retards who only are using Linux because of some youtuber are truly a disservice to the cause.
I really think that most of the hate Windows gets comes from technically illiterate faggots like you who'd rather change their OSs and how they do everything in it over learning how to use Windows properly.

If you already know that shit is in a particular repo in a particular folder, why don't you just fucking use grep to find it?
