This. Open your anus and your mind will follow.

But seriously, just have it on in the background while doing something productive, if it's not too much of a distraction. It's the only way.

On the contrary, I use it 15 hours a day and have done so for about a decade or more. Most of it is perfect for background usage.

You either already know the useful channels from years ago or you'll never find them because of the aislop infestation. The Hide-shorts extension can help.

on android, use bravepipe with all the anti-enshittification and sponsor skipping features enabled.

on desktop browsers, use sponsorblock and extensions to disable infinite scrolling. pull out of commenting, eventually become accountless to reduce your dependency on cuckgle as much as possible.

Believe it or not there was a time before YouTube. A time of tv and movies being all the things you could watch. You can still have that.

>is there a healthy way to use this website?
Desktop only.
Use an ad blocker, and the Return Youtube Dislike extension to warn you of shitty videos.
If you're signed in, use the subscriptions page instead of relying on the algorithm to show you videos of channels you like.
Consider turning off/clearing watch and search history (clearing years of history on an old account is pretty drastic, try it without being signed in first to see if you like it). This will make related videos actually somewhat "related" instead of a tailored slop feed.
Avoid shorts, and if you absolutely must watch a few, use a shorts redirector or at least change the /shorts/ in the URL with /watch/ to see the normal watch page instead of mobile bullshit.

Basically, revert to 2011.

I would unironically support a rate limited alternative to youtube that:

A) Allowed you to upload ONLY user AV1 + Opus webms. No H264/VP9/HEVC so AV1 adoption would grow.

B) The only limitation being a generous 100-200 MB filesize cap (per video) and 4K res.

C) Videos can be downloaded by anyone but leechers get throttled to 1 Mbps while premium users get access to 8/16/24 Mbps.

D) The use of the nigger word is not only allowed but ENCOURAGED to keep out snowflakes.

Here are all 4 browsers extensions I use specifically for Youtube. I also never login with my gmail and pretend I don't have an account when going on Youtube. I used to use youtue.com/feed/trending for discovery but they recently got rid of that feature. It got way too commercialized anyway. For discovery, I use Odysee and/or Rumble to find new Youtubers and cool videos to watch now.

Subscribe to the few good channels left and only use the subscriptions page.
And use an ad blocker and sponsor block of course.

I don't see how it's worse than Facebook though?

Go watch some 90's sitcoms.
They are absolute garbage and people only watches them because there was nothing else to watch.

They were so unfunny they had to use laugh tracks to avoid awkward silence after each "joke".
Anonymous No.106296718
>>106296315 (OP)
Step 1: download NewPipe for your phone. I prefer a fork like brave NewPipe or tubular because they support sponserblock, which allows the community to submit timestamps in which YouTubers are talking about the video sponsors.
Step 2: download FreeTube for your PC. it has sponserblock included natively.
Stpe 3: use grapheneos on your phone to create a new profile, download the open up the sandboxed play store, and create a Google account. Since Google thinks you're on a new phone, it won't ask you to enter a phone number then verify it or backup email to start a fresh Google account, unlike if you were to open a Google account right now on your computer. Once your new Google account is active, delete the profile from grapheneos. Whenever you want to watch an age verification required video which requires you to sign in to a valid Google account, use your created account. Eventually after about a month, Google will require you to verify a phone number to continue using it's services, including that burner account. Then you simply abandon that account and repeat the process.

There you go, all the functionality of having a full YouTube account, without the bullshit that goes into it. I deleted my Google account years ago and I haven't needed/wanted another one since.

sorry to hear. every once in a while, youtube intensifies the enforcement arms race. it's impressive how they can't stop UTTP bots but they absolutely can dump millions of man-hours into sabotaging third party clients so you WILL watch the ads and you WILL watch the shorts, you WILL watch the AI slop recommended feed

While we're on the topic, what's a good way to remove those automated playlists that YouTube is forcing upon you when you open a video? I just got one on a non-music video I clicked. As if the music ones weren't bad enough.

And yes, I know you can just delete it from the URL, but that gets tedious. Maybe I can use the Redirector extension to remove them automatically? Sounds too convoluted though.

pretty much this. if you browse any other way you are being mind fucked worse than hard drugs.
just make sure to turn off any suggested video page/panel (even on the main page) so you can only search for what you want to watch (classic search engine), otherwise all that rot will eventually break you down in a moment of weakness and you'll be drowning in slop again without realizing it.

Update. I fixed with Redirector, it wasn't even that difficult to pull off. It does seem to only work when opening links in a new tab though, but that's a minor issue.
