which will remain?

the bad thing happening is employers have lost respect for software engineers, they're not eager to scout and pay the big dollars to secure them, these companies were promised right around the corner is AI that can do it for free. so ironically the AI techbros, who believe software innovation is important, are killing the very thing they believe will help them reach the next level. its all trickle down. less people working as software engineers means less hobby projects (due to less free time), and that means over all less competent software engineers sharing fresh code to train AI.

It just happened that AI became the answer to everything.
>Don't know something? Ask AI.
>Don't know how to code this? Ask AI.
>Need to design visuals? Why not ask AI to do it?
>Is there AI in the processes?
>Can AI write the product copy? The website copy? The marketing copy?
>Can we make out video content with AI?

So my boss would expect AI to either know it all and fill the gap of our knowledge, code instead of engineers, design instead or designers, then it turns out that half of what AI produces is useless slop but now the retards with 0 standards think whatever AI can shit is a nugget of gold.

That just puts more pressure on people to use AI to augment themselves while the practical use cases where AI is useful are pretty limited.
Personally, it just writes my documentation for me.

It hasn't replaced anyone. But I see the midwits using it intensively because they think it somehow puts them ahead of the curve to input garbage to GOT and present the garbage output to the team

It's just a fad.
Same shit happened with The Cloud, Agile Methodology, etc.
midwit execs need to justify their roles by promoting some bullshit.
Trying to force AI down everyone's throats is within their risk tolerance because otherwise it'll look like they're not trying to do anything even though the Next Big Thingβ„’ is right in front of them
Better to be wrong than to be left behind

that should give you an idea as tyo how worthless it is

>Game Dev
Not yet and I doubt it will anytime soon. We got access to our internal deployment of GPT a few weeks back and it fucking blows. The instruction layer was clearly written by a team in India too which is mad funny. When it first launched it was using your name 2/3 times in each reply and asking you to do things kindly, they seem to have toned that down unfortunately, I liked having my AI-Saar.
Higher ups are forcing us to use it now too, workshops for AI use, weekly emails asking for contributions from the team on how they use AI so it can be shared division wide. It seems to be accelerating the belief that AI in it's current implementation has genuinely limited use case.
I'm not anti-LLM either, it's solid for parsing huge sets of design documentation, dialogue management, super basic boiler plate. I don't think it's taking SWE/designer jobs anytime soon but there's a definite place for it documentation consolidation and internal organisation.

it has, but its not high paying jobs that its taking, its taking the boiler plate code monkey jobs.

It unironically is, but only the absolute most basic jobs currently. It's gradually encroaching on higher up jobs but with very very mixed results.

AGI is coming in 2027 as agreed by several industry experts, btw.

From what I understand no, most of the programmers that I know use it while they work but nobody at those firms has been fired yet.

IMO it takes jobs not by firing developers but by slowing down new recruitment.
Instead of employing a student fresh from college they'll just tell their devs to use AI to improve productivity.
The big mistake here is that once the seniors retire there will be nobody to operate the AIs and it will be a slopocalypse like never seen before.

This. I got the same speech from leadership as a lead dev, they want to run a lean team but increase productivity. It's been great as an assistant if you know your shit, but I see the god awful slop our juniors are turning into review... Juniors shouldn't even use AI because they don't have enough experience to evaluate the quality of the output

coders need to work harder to sustain their current lifestyle and cover expenses. sure some escape that with crypto or good investment choices, but that isn't the majority.

My impression is it's filtering entry level jobs a bit, raising the bar. Generic code shitters will have a much harder time, but even back in the early 2000s it was probably tougher to get in. It is not the apocalypse people are making it out to be. There's a general contraction in tech unrelated to AI that is making it seem more extreme than it is.
