meanwhile my 30 year old IBM model M looks like brand new thanks to PVC, back in the 90s it was considered one of the cheapest keyboards they could make, nowdays this is considered ""one of the highest quality keyboards ever made""
just think about this for a second and figure out what's wrong.

weirdly enough, 10 year old chinesium rubber is decaying right now, while all of my thinkpads (even my ancient T40) are in perfect shape, just a few scratches on top
if you want to keep your rubber nice and looking/feeling like new, you can rub nivea skin cream onto it, and polish off the residues with a paper towel using minimal pressure, leaving just a little bit there. don't rub it, don't remove too much, just massage it in slightly.
if its too dirty you can use isopropyl alcohol (this will slowly soften/dissolve your rubber, so don't leave it on too long and don't apply too much pressure!) and clean it with that first.
make sure it dries fully before applying cream.
