Is getting into CS grad school actually as easy as the "go to grad school for a Master's if you couldn't secure an internship during undergrad" advice suggests?

I'm a rising senior and I'm about to start a research project with a professor I cold-emailed. But would only starting research in senior fall hurt my chances?

A lot of the CS grad programs I'm looking at "strongly recommend" or even require the GRE, which is basically the SAT 2. Already been looking at that, and am probably going to take it late September (and again in October if I bomb the September one).

My GPA is around exactly 3.6, but my schedule next year's so jam-packed it could very well dip below into the 3.5 range.

Rutgers

A few of the others I've looked into, such as Stony Brook and Temple, "strongly recommend" the GRE.

I've been practicing for it, and honestly my inability to do math and English I should've been able to do in HIGH SCHOOL just makes me feel incredibly retarded. They're probably going to pass me over for infinity international students or some shit because I only got a 150/170 and they'd prefer a 167.

No wonder Master's programs are so filled with those fellas. I've roomed with some before and they've been some of the most insufferable "young people" I've ever met in my life. My parents also did graduate studies in the US after moving here from China, and I don't care how many layers of Asian Kid Hell feeling this way takes me, but... my parents are really insufferable as well.

(Naive little me, sitting next to a hot brunette girl in 6th grade in every major class, thinking SHE was the worst person my age range because "muh girls icky", and that contributing to a long story that ended with me having to go to sped school. But that's a story for another day.)

Like I said, I only have 1 research experience to date, that would be "in progress" if I decide to apply to grad school in November this year. I mean, that's already probably better than many other CS students. But is it enough for grad school? (Doubt.)

Maybe I deserve to work at a fucking store forever. Everyone hates me I think, and everyone who likes me is just pretending to do so to prevent me from aping or some shit. Like the fucking Truman show. I bet I could literally drop dead and people would rejoice because I'll be dead and they think I can't hear them.

I don't even care if they're offering 30%-50% less than competitors, it's still really good pay for stuff I have experience with. No hidden salary, no 10+ yr requirements on a dozen tech products. >Why isn’t something like it a required part of the process to hire an H1B
This is how it works: you're a CEO at some big tech company in the US, and you're a cheap bastard with zero understand of how coding or tech work. Might as well hire some Indians from overseas, right? As far as you know code is code and it doesn't matter where it's from, so you might as well apply to the government to get you visas to get those bastards into the country. But uh oh, the American government doesn't like it when you only bring in people from overseas when there's plenty of American citizens you could've chosen from instead. You need to prove that you couldn't find any American employees before they'll let you fly in all your future slaves. So what do you do? You don't put your jobs on LinkedIn or your company's site, you dump them in some small local newspaper, wait a few weeks and then whine that you need H1Bs to fill all those jobs that lazy pig Americans won't fill. Tada, you abused the system!

jobs.now simply lists all those vacancies that big companies typically place in obscure places so they can get their visas. As for why it only happens now, well, a mix of the job market being fucking awful right now and Trump clamping down on H1B visas I suppose.

And frankly, it doesn't really matter because just like the refugee problem, all these organizations have just resolved to start doing this shit against the law, even with the threat of enforcement. And can he, even? Unless ICE becomes the de-facto largest federal policing force with the jurisdiction to prosecute all crimes, the only thing that has stopped this shit historically has been citizen militias that were given carte blanche by the government.

Prepping for the GRE, or honestly even going for any kind of grad studies, pisses the living hell out of me. I now have to do it on top of all the other newgrad prep, and it literally makes me feel like a fucking international student

Like it's a long, long story, but I've been treated like one all the time, and IT FUCKING PISSES ME OFF

I wonder if the GRE is the worst ever designed test to date, like it's so hard to get a good score on the practice tests I've done and they force you to memorize stupid vocab lists, and doing so literally makes me feel like some foreign kid living in his multigenerational house and whose parents would literally give him a belt for going off and partying, aka what any normal college student is better off doing than whatever THIS is

Is it bad to get upset and pissed off over the GRE, or is it a skill issue in which should I just suck it up and keep practicing? AKA what I could've done to avoid this mess entirely with LeetCode the past 2 summers. And for the record, I'm a US citizen.

And then there's the question as to how I'm supposed to pay for the damn thing

Is THIS what it takes to get literally ANY fucking job that lets me get out of mom's house so I can have girls over and cook my own meals and shit? Like it doesn't have to be SWE at Google and the TC doesn't have to be 200k. I just want something, anything, in which I can settle into the job and work my way up from THERE, you know.

Ideologies and political theater are merely tools that are used by politicians to control you for their own benefit. When you hear about low birth rates it isn't your neighbor complaining about it, it's the government. It isn't because they care about you, it's because it means less tax cattle for them in the future. They don't care because you have to realize that absolutely no one in the country is currently acting like the country is going to stay together for another 10-20 years. CEOs are all just trying to make earnings better so that their stock goes up so that they can sell at the top. No one's stopping them either because outside of like 8 people in the Trump administration they're all doing it. The country is ending, dude.

To be the devil's advocate for a bit, this role looks nice on paper but since this is supposed to be an H-1B role they're not actually intending to pay someone $130,000+ to do it. The actual salary will be a fraction of that, also you'd have to work 12 hours every day because you'll get deported otherwise. I don't even think they intend for brahminshits that are already here with citizenships to do this role, it's slave labor disguised as a $130K position. That is:

For example, a solution requires checking scope for arguments passed into it, and then processing them. I can do this no problem, but I am convinced the loop itself can be condensed into a single line that still returns the correct argument's name within the exception message.
Is getting the response on how to do that and using the streamlined scope check/exception message handling poor form?

if you still have access to your school's student portal, see if there's an internship program, or maybe something for alumni.

Build some confidence. If you can't look them in the eye, at least remain focused and speak with a deep, calm voice. Try to crack a "clever" joke without sounding desperate. Women like that kind of thing too.

just want to chime in and say you are based as fuck. I grew up listening to the big trance podcasts of the day (state of trance, TATW, sometimes tiesto's club life but didn't care for it as much). great memories getting excited for each new weekly release on iTunes and gaming on my pc while listening to it.

I want to post two of my favorite trance songs of all time for you, in case you care

there are plenty of remote dev jobs that are offshored to ASEAN countries that pay $2k- $3k/mo. you should try applying to those if you can't get anything in australia.

>If you know how to use AI an actually learn from it you basically have a full time senior dev helping you out at all times, it will absolutely help you speed run your career advancement
The problem is, so does everyone else. Maybe if it was your own little advantage it would help, but if everyone has the same advantage then it really isn't one at all.

>1 year if experience for a senior is insane.
it says 2 years of SDE experience including 1 year in each. So you're talking a minimum of 2 years. If one of those years included working in *ux+programming+SQL work, then yeah, that's a reasonable resume for a Sr. Dev who has experience that exactly matches the task.

Plus keep in mind the salary range is a very broad $130k-$500k. The salary will reflect the actual experience. $130k is barely above the poverty line in the bay area, and you won't be getting the $500k package without "10+ yr requirements on a dozen tech products.".

not to be a bharat shill but the reason companies hire indians for entry level roles is they often come with a masters degree from a US university with a few years of experience before coming to the country. i doubt there is an insidious reason they do this to displace american workers or whatever. and PERM is after they get hired.
