Why not 3x USBC? Would probably melt less often.

they'd have to include the various voltage rails dc/dc converters on the motherboard -> more cost when they're already included in the psu

EU should ban busbars and instead enforce USBars

they need to update the atx standard. basically nothing uses 12V natively, it's always bucked down to something lower -- and so having a 12V be the high power transmission voltage is fucking retarded. bump it up to 48V or 60V (maximum safe voltage as per some IEC standard) and run cascaded buck converters locally to get it down to 1.2V or whatever is required.

People would lose the cable and put their shitty 15W phone charger cable instead and then complain the computer won't boot

Going from 48V to low ripple 0.7-1.2V is not so easy. But 24V would work better.
I am still disapointed that ATX 12VO didn't happen.

It's time to ban multi-cable connectors.

why not a higher voltage?

Many proprietary prebuilts already have 12V-only PSUs yet they still use connectors with no less that 10 wires

It's never been a problem for PCIe, so I don't know why it'd be an issue for power connections.

Have you ever tried to sip a really thick milkshake through a thin straw? Now imagine using 20 fat straws. It's easier. Learn how electricity works and then ask yourself this question again. A ton of current through tiny pissy wires is a recipe for fire and destruction.

I legit dont understand this. why are there so many discrete wires? or rather i know why that's the case, but why aren't they bundled/woven/twisted?

>>106307884
akshually electricity travels best on the surface of a conductor so you want a large number of wires as thin as they can be without getting too hot

Most edge connectors like this are usually secured in place, they're not going to rotate and snap off, because they're on rails.

Actually, using liquid as an analogy for current flow, a higher voltage would be a faster moving liquid, not a thinner one.
Anonymous No.106311048 >>106311071

sure, but in the context of using a straw, the things that make it easier is a thicker straw or thinner liquid
Anonymous No.106311071
>>106311048
>>106310996
though of course, the result of using a thinner liquid is itself faster moving liquid, so it comes around
