Which systemd-free distro isn't maintained by them? I want to run a distro that doesn't let politics get in the way of development. (systemd-free, I'm not going to use Satanic software)

You could try PCLinuxOS - probably the last truly systemd-free distro that tries to be easy to use. However, be prepared to give up some software and deal with increasing incompatibility, as more and more programs become reliant upon systemd services. (Forget wayland and xdg-portals, so no thumbnails in the filepicker on KDE, for instance.)
Personally, I'd just use Mint, or the new LMDE when that comes out. They seem to be the least retarded distro with sensible defaults and painless updates.
Another distro that's more updated (semi-rolling release) is Solus. I've found that one works well for gaming and it boots up faster than any other distro I've used.
Sorry, anon. systemd is kinda unavoidable at this point if you actually want to get some work done/play some games.

the only political thing people complain about is its usage of the Contributor Covenant, but that thing is just about maintaining a professional harassment-free environment. it specifically prevents special treatment when enforced earnestly. and from what i've seen on mailing lists, the community generally repels any sort of off-topic demographic affiliation shit. afaik there's a trans-type that's been trying to influence them for awhile in *that* way but has never had success.
imo it's a good example of how the best repellent is a project with an innate central ideology you agree with that they aren't willing to compromise. the takeovers tend to happen to projects that only care about the technical aspects, pretend to be neutral, and don't pay enough attention to ideology.
