it's all so tiring
>be me
>junior compsci
>have a 4.0 at our biggest local state uni
>also have 2 years experience as a junior dev at a smaller firm
>spent this last summer interning at midsize regional company
>had a job and offers from other places but decided to go with this one because they had better "culture"
>also because the recruiter said they usually return every intern for part-time work and I need the money, according to him they have only ever not returned one intern
>applied for and was hired for an "application development internship"
>arrive on site, told I'm actually a "QA engineer intern" and will be doing automated testing, not actual development
>uh...okay, cool, I guess I don't know a lot about testing, would be good to learn? and my title is still developer intern...
>do shitty jira ticket based work for 3 months
>the work is mundane, mindless, and I hate doing it, but despite that all my coworkers love me
>i'm charismatic and make everyone laugh, manager constantly glazes me and says I'm a pleasure to have on the team
>even rickrolled a director once and he thought it was hilarious
>asked during every one-on-one with directors and managers if there was anything I could do to improve and they usually said that I was doing fine
>summer ends
>go into exit interview with director
>"so look anon, I want you to know this isn't personal, we simply don't have the budget to return you"
>tells me they have no open QA position and they can tell I'm not wanting to do QA work, they know I'm overqualified and would be better suited for a developer role
>mfw the recruiter lied and I find out they don't return people all the time
>mfw I MIGHT get a full time job if I apply again in 10 months but no gurantees!
>mfw I check linkedin a week later and every other intern across the actual SWE departments got a co-op offer and a full time return offer
>mfw I could've done actual SWE work at one of the other companies that offered me last spring and probably gotten a return offer.
