Actnano is a company that supposedly specializes in making water resistant coatings, which are allegedly already used in consumer shit like phones, laptops, automotive stuff like volvo. The main draw being that the coatings are non toxic, human safe and extremely cheap to manufacture (allegedly it costs one dollar per pcb for manufacturers).
Why are their products not more popular? It seems they could, according to their own words at least, vastly improve electronics resistance to liquid damage, even more niche products like toughbooks and latitude ruggeds and make them much lighter and smaller in size. Is it a scam? Is it an overpromise? An exageration? Are there some unmentioned problems? There's barely any discusion of it here, not a single mention I've ever found on desuarchive.

This is a video by salem techsperts about actnano and him giving some questions to the ceo of the company.
The ceo says that it isn't more popular than it already is because oems don't WANT to make water resistant tech because water damaged tech is the cause of 20% of their new product sales.

This seems kinda like bullshit, because (normal) laptops and tablets were always disadvantaged compared to phones in use outdoors where the chance of spilling water on your thing is higher and it would seem like very low hanging fruit and still substantial innovation for oems to sell devices as indestructable to gross human produce and liquids and would expand the use case of such stuff outside your normal office or whatever.

Something like how car ads nowadays always have some sort of adventurous theme (ie, going outside to the woods or beach idk) assuming the car isnt as comedically unsuitable for that like a toyota yaris or toyota aygo or whatever.

Makes you really think.

for what it's worth yeah i see no reason to dunk more stuff in waterproof coatings aside from planned obsolescence and making component level repair harder (as if they do that anyway)
