I think one more with captive portal, not sure what the default settings is with that and if it made calls or not but you can try disabling it. I was surprised that a "privacy" oriented browser would be making calls, to google no less, with the default settings. brave is even worse. To clarify, yes Librewolf makes some sketchy connections. So does every modern browser. Modern privacy is a myth. If you want 100% privacy you'll have to ditch all the tech you own and live in a cabin in the woods somewhere.

To add to this, can't speak for others but the reason why I use Librewolf is that it makes it easier to adjust your privacy settings (i.e. your about:config), so essentially the websites won't track you even if Mozilla does. You could use something like Ungoogled Chromium or even surf or qutebrowser but those are more focused on having as few features as possible, including features that would enhance your privacy.
