How could we make the image quality better for VR?
Ever since I got this VR headset, I've been shocked at how awful the image quality is for Steam.
Unless your computer is directly plugged into the wifi modem, the image is blocky as hell, because the way it works is by actually STREAMING the visuals/data between your two devices.
And that's crazy, right? I can't believe there isn't a better solution for transmitting data over such a short distance. Some little dongle you could plug into your USB or HDMI port, if the computer can't do it already.
Isn't there anything like that out there? Some kind of wireless signal that can transmit HD data across a living room? It's not like I could build my own VR set, but I can't believe this isn't just Facebook being cheap and trying to force you to use their store.

But you can't turn around without tripping over stuff.
It's not as good as you'd think.

There were 60 GHz solutions for a bit, but no one wanted to pay for them. Also 60 GHz gets blocked if you just stand in front of it.

IMO LiFi makes the most sense for extreme bandwidth for in room wireless. Light is cheaper to work with than 60 GHz. Bounce it off the ceiling for reception.

i never once tripped on the cable. you can use a ceiling hook or something to get them off the floor if it's seriously a problem for you.

Like it should be. It's a computer not a phone that needs to move.

zoomers unironically refer to their tablets as computers now

My living situation isn't concrete enough that I'd want anything other than a gaming laptop. Sorry.
I know those things are a meme, and I need to get a new machine soon anyway, but there it is.

Can you plug a network cable into it?

Facebook allows PCVR to add value to their headsets but their bottom line is standalone because you use the meta store.

Valve's next headset would surely have a wireless dongle.

Also wireless VR hasn't reached it's full power level yet. Valve's next headset will also have eye tracking enabling foveated encoding so it can push extra quality to what you are actually looking at.

I've used both and even with the modest decoding abilities of the quest 2 I would never trade wireless for video quality if I could only choose one. My hours and hours of blade and sorcery would be ruined babysitting that thing. Even just a simple fps I don't want it even though you can stop and fix it every once in a while.

You shoulda bought a PSVR2. It’s pretty good!

just buy the shitty TP-link wifi extender with the ethernet port on it. shit works fine and was like 20 dollars. connect your PC to its ethernet port and your headset to its 5Ghz band, and if you're using AV1 codec (quest3/3S or newer) you don't even need gigabit ethernet because AV1 codec takes such little bandwidth.

also don't install the shitty facebook malware on your PC its ass and crashes a lot. use steam link or virtualdesktop.
