hey, OP here. i don't mean to spam the board with rat threads or anything, i make only one or two a week and let them die naturally. i also post xue on a few threads, but i also try not to overdo it, i only reply to dumb threads or to threads about other desktop environments.
i think imageboard culture is dying, and i remember back then when every board had its inside jokes and whatnot, and my ratposting is just a harmless attempt at trying to create something like that again. i just think it's fun to have little silly threads like this on the catalog, i'm not trying to be annoying or bother anyone.

I like Xubuntu because it just works. Proof: I have it on both my new gaming pc and my old gaming laptop, and both run smoothly. It also works pretty well with kde-plasma-desktop (not to be confused with kde-standard or kde-full).

I get you, I really do, but it's very easy to make enemies in the Internet these days and I don't want them coming for XFCE.

I hate this DE. It's ugly, nothing works out of the box and there's no preview of keyboard layouts.

I have to agree with the 'ugly' part but I think that's by design to appease boomers who've been using this DE since the early 2000's and hate change. Everything has a modern look and feel to it, it's just not set by default. you just have to "right-click>properties" or fiddle with the preferences and select it. Take the application launcher, it looks like dogshit out of the box but if you go into the preferences and turn on icons and disable 'window decorations' you suddenly have a nice looking runner.

there's a number of de's/wm's with ugly default appearances, which is subjective, but it does stand out to many people. that said, i would imagine anyone who cares about defaults would be using a distro that configures their de/wm for them anyway, and anyone installing stock versions is going to want to configure it to their preferences anyway.
pic related, icewm default vs. trisquel theme

on the flipside, i do greatly appreciate at least being able to keep things looking the same over a long period of time, i don't change the look my system really at all anymore so i wouldn't want them to take the option away to use old themes, all i'd suggest is perhaps at least update the default theme a bit more often, since it's likely new users who are going to use it. first impressions and all that
