Yes, and that's a good thing.
I was just thinking yesterday, I don't even know what version my phone is anymore, and I'm not aware what the current version is, and I don't recognize any difference in use or features in my phone since about 2015.

sorta been nostalgic for the late 2000s/early 2010s era of phones when every few months something new and exciting was happening. now you can easily go 5+ years on a phone as long as you don't break it and the battery holds up

There is no point in paying more than $700 for an Android phone, period.
Even with an iPhone it's only a status symbol, but at least it's a status symbol.
The only thing a $1200 Android phone signals is poor impulse control.

there’s theoretical room for innovations.
for example if the screens on flip phones could be made nearly as durable as the screens on normal phones I think we would see a huge shift in the phone market to almost all flip phones.
just because nobody has really thought of anything in 10 years doesn’t mean it won't be revolutionized at some point.

Like 99% of people don't need a phone with more processing power than a CMF Phone 1.

>Decent camera
>Can run gachaslop/roblox type shit
>No slowdown or lag watching videos or scrolling apps and shit
It costs Β£180/$230 so I don't know why anyone pays or worse, pays huge sums monthly for other phones.
I could see a reason maybe 5-10 years ago when cheaper third party phones had drawbacks or couldn't do gaming, lacked newer wireless protocols etc etc but they're pretty fucking strong now and don't actually feel cheap or lack anything you really need.

Lately, I have been feeling the need for a better telephoto camera than the one on my S20FE. Went to a concert recently and all my zoomed videos look like noisy garbage. Good periscope cameras are attached to $700+ phones only unfortunately. Its a shame because I'd rarely use the rest of the phone attached to it beyond scrolling, so that processing power is wasted on me.

In phones, wireless charging is the biggest "recent" innovation I can think of. Otherwise it's all incremental stuff.
Wouldn't even count folding phones to be honest. We had those before, and folding a screen and having a permanent crease disqualifies it from being innovative in my book.

Folding phones are not innovative because they don't solve anything and don't offer true functionality, despite the extra screen real estate.
Multitasking sucks, you're limited to two tasks
The crease
Dirt inevitably getting into the hinge
Trades width of the screen for undesired thickness
Costs more than a small laptop
A small laptop outdoes the folding phone in just about every measurement
Montreal demand for them, just get a phone, tablet, or laptop depending on your needs

I could go on

I mean if you have pixel 7, 8, 9 then you don't have to "upgrade". But I think this is perfect time for me to upgrade as an iphone 11 user. Although I still have a year worth of security updates left. Perhaps I should wait for pixel 11. hmmm

If you understand who and what the Pixel is for, yes. I think even the latest one is barely more powerful than an iPhone 12. If you care about stock Android, Google's slop, being able to root it, the camera, etc. you'll like it a lot. Otherwise, if you're just going to "use" it then you'll probably be worse off unless you REALLY love Google's ecosystem.
Anonymous No.106331654
>>106331584
You're right. There is really not a lot to look for on new phones these days. I only care about security updates. I figured I can slap a lineageOS ROM on pixel after they retire it, unlike iphones where there are no option.
