because normies are retarded and always support the current thing. And the current thing today is hating AI. Furthermore normies usually define their personality by their job and don't understand they can do fun stuff while not being "productive" or "useful". They don't understand coding, doing math, physics and art for fun, in their mind everything has to have a pragmatic goal and a role in the system.

Lazy midwits realized that now they can't just stop now and have to embrace this new technology or perish and that makes them feel cheated as they all imagined they have guaranteed early retirement because of primitive grind they went through.
These people are, of course, artists and other creative job. Society really likes to romanticize such professions, so when they see shitty furry 5$ fiver artists cry about being oppressed they immediately jump to xer defense.

It's mind boggling how profit focused normalfags are. Artists putting retarded glaze over their images and "do not repost" watermarks are the pinnacle of this retardness.
Imagine famous painter putting a plastic foil on their art in museum with "DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS" or a pianist blasting "DO NOT RECORD" every 20s from speakers.
Every time someone uses their work for something they cry like someone has broke into their house, stole their toothbrush and fucked their wife.
Who the fuck cares lmao. Just do your art and let people enjoy and remix it. If you are good, your audience will form naturally, even if all you do is in public domain. Every hobby programmer does FOSS because they know how incredibly powerful and beneficial collaboration can be. The popular musicians I like are also like this, "do whatever you want, just send me an email or put me in credits if you can" is a common stance. It's always literal whos shitty commission artists that cry about others stealing or reposting their shit.

>Patreon artists faggotry who are afraid that people won't commission their furry porn or whatever the fuck and thus are acting like coal miners who hate renewable solar or wind power (that those same artfags lambasted in the past for being backwards).
>screeching about techbros and other political-alignment-starter-pack types who don't like it because its perceived on the side of the culture war they hate.
>Both types can yell about STEALING and DOING HARM garbage thanks to a misunderstanding of how AI models work and are upset that a computer program doing the exact same thing they do is big an evil.
Corpos make use of all of theabove, especially the last bit, in order to shill their "responsible" AI companies while getting the usual idiots to undermine the competition, thus pulling the ladder up.

Its pretty bad that nobody is fightting the right fight about AI which is that models and training data, weights etc... need to be FOSS and self host capable; doubly so if its doing anything 'important' (making decisions about anything that affects your life) or gets any sort of public funding. Otherwise, we're kneeling before megacorps and their SaaS pay to play trade sekrit models and become beholden to them.

Honestly I might shift my opinion to agree with the kliksphilip take on AI that there's nothing inherently wrong with it and can be a versatile creation tool.

My only opposition to AI is that it is a becoming a tool for the lazy. The vast majority of use cases for AI is because someone was too cheap to pay someone or too lazy to put in the effort, which can leave the end result feeling cheap. I'm against advocating for things that lower the standards of quality.

It's moving away from being an innovative creation tool to a litmus test on how shitty something is. Someone was showing me some new software suite they're thinking about switching to, and my opinion of it was instantly diminished when I saw the landing page was using an AI generated image. It's like the floors being dirty in a business. If you can't spend the time to clean the most conspicuous thing in the building I'm going to think everything else in that place is dirty. Same thing for lazy use of AI.

Also, the "climate change acceleration" and "stealing information and harming artists" points don't resonate with me. Climate change acceleration argument falls flat on its ass because while It is an issue it's a fraction of what really contributes to climate change. People will say that, then drive to work, buy fast food, and order three things off Amazon made in China. Stopping climate change requires lifestyle changes and refusal of convenience which literally isn't going to happen. AI is the easy scape goat to rile emotions up and get you to buy more comfort items off the internet. Stealing information and harming artists? Sucks, man! That's what search engines have been doing since the dawn of time by crawling your site and putting it on the open internet. Or just the existence of the tools curl or wget. If you don't want it being used, don't put it out there. Patrons are happy to pay for exclusive content, so why do artists care if their public stuff is being sucked up by ChatGPT?

When was the last time you have used Google translate and when was the last time you have hired someone to translate something from different language?
When was the last time you have hired someone to paint a picture of your family or whatever instead of taking a photo?
When was the last time you have hired someone to manually weave a bucket or a hat for you instead of buying one from a factory?
What you consider being lazy and greedy today might become the norm in near future.
What you are trying to promote false dichotomy. Not unlike how painters would try to present camera as a lazy tool for talentless people, as if an artists couldn't use it to make a good artwork or as if there was some inherently wrong with a laymen taking random photo of something they liked instead of learning how to draw it.
We should stop associating basic drawings with exceptional artworks, just like we have stopped associating realistic images with the mastery of the art of painting. Times change.

This is true, but it is worth noting Google Translate is often a few marks off of being an accurate translation between language. It's apparent when something has been run through Google Translate compared to someone knowing the language. But, it's usually "good enough" and opens opportunity. I suppose then I am arguing against "good enough" and for higher standards.

>laziness
I think this can be said to be a puffed up fake excuse for any technology that makes life easier. Those who profit from the old labor intensive way get upset it is no longer required and claim that something is lost, but usually its not actually an issue of "laziness' that didn't exist before. A crappy generated piece of artwork is not necessarily any worse than a crappily drawn piece of artwork. Also, if someone only has a certain amount of money - much like a common discussion for piracy - no amount of demanding they need to pay more is going to get them to do so.

A good example is there is an excellent little game on /v/ - it has hand made pixel art, got big oldfag composers, and is made really well for what it is. The tiny indie dev made a couple of "commercials" that used AI generated music and artwork and did a good job with it, modifying and putting it all together manually - he would have never been able to afford to get a whole separate set of vocal composers, musicians, animators , so its not he would have made some high quality alternative, there would have been nothing comparable. I can't malign this usage and overall it came out well.

This is all before how people used to argue the exact same things about "low quality" when it came to digital artwork (I remember the ages of EEWWWW CGI IS ONLY FOR SCI FI MOVIE OF THE WEEK GARBAGE THATS ALL IT WILL EVER BE ) vs physical artwork, but now the aforementioned is the status quo and the people screeching about lack of SOVL and too easy and not art etc.. are just moving onto the newest thing, when they were making "real art" with their photoshop or whatever the fuck else.

I think he's correctly focused on how many people are using proprietary ones and how the industry has gravitated around the to him egregious definitionally wrong "AI" label in order to get the next big thing, but I remember a time someone posed him a couple of usages. I think it was the time he gave the example of using it to look through code and licenses to figure out places of likely infringers on Free software licenses, but I don't remember if he pitched the idea or if someone else pitched the idea to him but he saw it as useful as it is normally something that takes a fuckload of time to even drill down to likely violators given the scope and breath of projects, given FSF gets inundated with people who claim that someone's fork of something isn't doing the right thing in the right way, and has to figure out if the license is even something they'd work with (Free Software compatible) and then how it was violated , or if it was a "letter of the law but not the spirit" thing, or if someone was just bullshitting or angry e. As far as other things being "useful" or not that may be subjective, but keeping the industry from being dominated by proprietary models who are so far ahead and cannot be investigated properly etc. . is useful in and of itself, by having FOSS alternatives, data, and similar levels of sophistication.

What is "AGI"?
The tech we already have is very underutilized. All we need is to fine-tune models for specific tasks. And training is a one time cost. Datasets will keep being improved which will improve the models.
So even if the underlying tech stagnates AI will cover more and more of your life anyway.

I agree that current AI has its uses, and I don't completely hate it, but it's not the panacea they're trying to sell us.
As for AGI, it stands for “artificial general intelligence,” so in my opinion, it should be able to solve novel problems, learn on the fly, and complete truly complex tasks (for example, a new OS, a new browser, new programming paradigms, new math fields etc), just like a human genius in a specific field, using energy similar to or close to what a person would need (No fucking gigawatts to solve a high school math problems which you can find their answers using Chegg lmao).
If we could preserve the brain of a person with an IQ of 180 and make them not need to sleep or eat, many interesting things could be created in their area of expertise without spending billions of dollars.

There are different reasons. Personally I do not care about people losing their jobs.
An AI generated image, song, or even computer program is like a fake painting. Sure, it can look and feel like the original but the genuine value is lost. Therefore, AI will always be slop. The internet will soon be unusable if you're looking for genuine media, so save what you can.
There are some time-saving uses, such as an app that listens to a meeting and makes notes, even picking up names of participants. The notes are slop but may be worth it for the hassle avoided.

What a subhuman you are.
GPT output is only as good as the input you feed into it. It can't understand what you mean, it takes everything literally.
So if you're not 100% careful with your statements, which is almost always the case in reality....the output you'd get will have a considerable chance of being incorrect...
and unless you're an expert or actually know your shit, you wouldn't be able to understand whether the output is correct or not, and that's the problem.
Subhumans like you just use GPT without knowing their shit, and just take its output by heart as if it's always correct no matter what.
