yeah, I don't understand either, I see my desktop for about 5 seconds a day when I boot the computer, I don't even have a wallpaper because I never fucking see it so why would it matter.
if you want to start a software just hit the win/super/ key on your keyboard and tap the first letters of your software then enter, much easier, faster and less harmfull for your wrist than using the shitty and unreliable mouse.

WIndows has been able to use the taskbar as a launcher (Meta + 1/2/3/4... to launch whatever application you have pinned there) for 17 years.
