I would hate to live in a country that forces me to do tax returns when they know exactly how much tax I need to pay anyway, solely to prop up the business models of private corporations................

You don't have to pay someone to file your taxes for you. It's only a couple forms unless you have an abnormal financial situation.

The sole purpose of filing taxes is to humiliate you. It's a humiliation ritual.
I have an upcoming tax audit in a few weeks and I'm dreading it, even though I'm certain I've done everything correctly, perhaps with a few formal mistakes that won't lead to extra tax payments.

You got less than 8 weeks to download Flyby11 and just upgrade. Microsoft is taking a zero tolerance approach to baby ducks this time round, expect that Microsoft will do everything they can to make LTSC unusable too.

If you're not a loser wagie, doing your own taxes (or having an accountant) gives you a chance to significantly reduce what you owe.
You... DO have your own corp, right?

it still pisses me off that you're literally not allowed to do your taxes online for free, the only "free" way to file taxes is to mail fucktons of paper, you can't fax or email it, you can't even use the "free e-filing" options on the IRS website if your tax situation is more complicated than W2 wagie.

american tax law is complicated if you're self-employed or have your own business, you get to creatively deduct your business expenses from your income and only pay taxes on the end result, of course if income is mostly cash then nobody has to know lmao

I use Cash App (free) to file my tax return. It was originally part of Credit Karma but TurboTax bought them and discontinued the free service. There's a lawsuit against TurboTax over this, resulting in the free service being sold to Cash App.

TurboTax is a very unethical company and charges too much for their service. They lobbied the government to not offer a similar service in order maintain their monopoly.

They know how much income you get, that isn't cash under the table. If you don't report that, that's the big red canoe they paddle up your ass. Everything else is just a gradient regarding your creativity in complicated tax situations. America doesn't do a flat tax so there are a lot of different possible ways you can reduce what you owe. Smart people know the legal loophopes that were written into the code for them. Stupid people try to "cheat" egregiously thinking they're smarter than a calculator.

most tax evasion goes undetected. what little that is detected is identified via analytics and comparison to expectations. for individual taxpayers, a common audit flag is excessive business mileage and home office deductions. they don't know the numbers, they just flag you for an audit based on excessive deductions that defy expectations. but again, most evasion goes undetected and uncollected. the field audit, if it does occur, is for the purpose of determining what the number should be -- because they don't know the number beforehand.

If you actually had a job, you'd know corporations still on 10 are upgrading computers to 11 and performing hardware refreshes on the systems that can't be upgraded. But you don't have a job, you don't work, you have no experience in the industry, so you delusionally think the latest in a line of OS updates ranging back decades is somehow a new and scary thing.
