Opinion on this GL.iNet GL-MT6000?
https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-mt6000/
It would run openwrt and replace my ISP provided router

He thinks because several anons in the last thread defended ubiquiti that if he pretends they're all the same person and labels them schizo itll make his own autistic networking preferences somehow more valid.

Frankly baffling behaviour, but here we are.

Works for me and has support for Asus Merlin firmware

Yeah I used to have an AC86U (got it on massive sale).

Now I have an AX68U that I've been running for ~4 years now (got it on a pretty good sale).

When Merlin finally drops support for it, I'll upgrade to the newest, reasonably priced ASUS router that runs Merlin.

And this is coming from the guy in charge of setting up and maintaining the entire enterprise network at work.

Sure but no one expects you to pay for Cisco subscriptions for a home network.

OpenWRT/Merlin/Opensense/Pfsense/etc are all fantastic options to a non-normie home user.

Yeah, if it weren't Merlin I'd go with OPNSense.

Yea that's the only problem with Asus routers. If they support Merlin they're great, if they don't you're left wanting even though the hardware is amazing

It already runs GL.INet's version of OpenWRT and is the current OpenWRT golden goose, so yes

How does one get a job managing networks? How much does it pay? I enjoy them a lot and am trying to figure out if being a professional networker is realistic.

I'm not a good person to ask, we're actually a smaller startup and I'm basically here because I knew the two guys that started it and they wanted someone they could trust.

It's good. Just use the stock firmware which is a GL.iNet UI frontend over top of OpenWRT (you can still access OpenWRT's own UI)

Why should I use the stock firmware instead of openwrt? I prefer my stuff to run OSS software.

openwrt and pfsense generally don't require additional mambo jambo for Intel NICs. Realtek historically cause lots of headache in these systems
