high-end video gaming, crypto mining, 3d modeling, AI art / chatbots, (occasional) video editing, and being able to multi-task everything at the same time.
Honestly, if you're just a GAMER, something like a Steam Deck will play 99% of games ever made. PC's are for sophisticated, productive people.

There are still use-cases for a desktop PC, like not being dependent on an Internet connection to play your single player titles (although AAA crap is definitely trying its hardest to force/normalise always-online games)

Faster and more comfortable to use than a laptop. Laptops are downright hellish to use, and rape your spine. To be comfortable, you at least need a proper monitor so you can sit straight while looking at your work, and of course the bigger screen is also far more pleasant to watch than a tiny laptop screen. And by that point, why not just get a proper desktop setup, instead of a shitty laptop that'll set itself on fire and become incredibly noisy the moment you try to do anything powerful on it?
