Do you trust those small sites that offer free alternative services? (usually alternative front-ends like SearXNG)
Like how do you know they don't modify the code of these "private services" server side to creep on you? Usually I track down the person hosting the site and determine if they seem trustworthy.
I'm partially making this thread because I found yonderly.org but can't find anything on the person behind it.

Trust is not my concern. Lack of diverse support and spam come up as Internet-wide health problems. You are doing the one relevant part of tending the issue for your own consumption habits.

if you can't find the owner looking at the country in which the service is hosted can tell you a bit of what to expect
Everyone sells your info its how money is made with websites since some decades now, the best you can do is to set up some addons and a firewall, if you find someone that accepts encryption it just drags more attention to your router, so that's about it

i got this saved from a thread years ago about doxxing private frontends owners for being sus or something. its probably schizo shit but it is still plausible, because most of these private frontends are hosted by the troony types.
