Saw this asked years ago. After a lengthy thread, the solution was to buy lcd panels like for media totem stuff and diy the monitor backend.
I recently started to use a 27" 1440p display after having used 17in laptops my whole life
Now all the posts in 4chan threads are to the far left of the screen which I litterally have to turn my head or shift my eyes over to read and it's uncomfortable
Is there an extension or something that shifts over posts to be closer to the center of the screen?

I've considered this but in practice I don't really benefit from doing that in most situations, especially since for the sake of organizing my tabs I need shit in specific windows
Maybe vivaldi has a way to have two tabs open at once at different parts of the screen as if they were seperate windows, but I don't think it does outside of pinning something to the left sidebar, but that's treated as it's own thing rather then a tab and doesn't support extensions (so anything on the sidebar won't have ublock active, etc)

Does anyone know of a program I ca use to have my phone screen in my computer(linux)?
The screen became completely unusable, but the phone itself is fine. I don't intend to fix it since I already brought a new one. But I still have photos and files on it I want to recover.
Is there any programs that basically run the phone screen in a app window in my laptop?

is there a way to block the reply form from saving form information other than using ublock and blocking the element ?
if accidentally click "options" my email will show and I have a mini panic attack
People cite the XKCD four word passphrase idea as "good enough" for security not dealing with nation-state actors. I find that incredibly dubious because it seems like it's vulnerable to the exact same kind of brute forcing as more conventional passwords using a dictionary attack catered to it, especially because people's predictability makes this vulnerable to the exact same kinds of retreads. And if you get up to six or seven words, you start needing to look up the password anyway, which defeats the purpose.
Am I talking out of my ass here? It just seems like a bad idea.

"Entropy" is the measure of information contained within something and takes into account the constraints on its structure. So if you pick a passphrase from a list of words, it's assumed that brute force attacks will use the same dictionary. The point of the xkcd comic is that "pick 4 random words from a list" still carries more randomness than "pick one random word, change a letter to a number, add a random symbol etc.". Again, all of this assumes that the attacker has perfect knowledge of your method of selecting a password, because it's a standard security principle and it just eliminates a lot of risk that's very hard to quantify (how unique is my method, really? am I sure nobody can guess it? can they social engineer it, e.g. add me on discord and start talking about passwords and goad me into describing how I generate mine? etc. etc.).
So you just need to take the number of options you can select from, and power it by the number of times you select it.
E.g. for single characters - 26 letters, 52 with capitals, 62 with numbers, say 72-ish with common symbols. Then say you make an eight character password, that's 72 ^ 8, that's about 10^14.8 (aka on the order of one million billion possible passwords). Or, in bits, 2^49.3, so a bit over 49 bits of entropy, which is how it's usually described.
For a list of 4000 common words, and 4 words, the same maths (4000 ^ 4) is equal to 2^47.8, so approximately 48 bits of entropy, almost the same. The thing is that a truly random string of 8 characters is almost impossible to remember, while 4 words takes some effort and is vastly easier.
Now ~50 bits of entropy isn't a lot. Say you're aiming for 100 bits, which is close to guaranteed to be uncrackable in our lifetimes. You can use a slightly longer word list - 10,000 words still keeps them common enough to easily remember - and eight words. Now you'll need to come up with a mnemonic for them, some poem or some way to remember them, but it's not THAT hard.

But why? If the words are truly random, then remembering seven of them is something that can trip people not trained in memorization up.
At that point you might as well write whole sentences like
>"The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain."
I dunno. I just always assume the worst when someone says they have an "easy solution" to something.

With 72 random characters, you need 17 characters to match that. This is basically impossible to memorize.
>>106348031
It's really not that hard. If it's a password you use often, or one that's important, you can very easily remember.
Here's an example of a word-based generation:
huntsman pursuant version herself sensation domelike overuse impromptu
Again, spend like 10 minutes coming up with a mnemonic, some short story based on the words etc. You can't just glance at it and remember it but that's not the point. It's an unbreakable password that you CAN remember. And once you memorize it, if you then need to use it again in a month, it might take you a few tries and some headscratching but you have a chance to put the concepts together and dig out the words.
Now with characters:
tr?QlY+SMl&u>Id>H
This has about the same security as above, but how do you memorize this? If it slips your mind, how the fuck do you even start trying to recollect what characters went where, which special characters were used? If you think you remember it but then it's wrong, it's not just "ah fuck this word isn't right, let me try to remeber", it's immediately just panick because how do you even figure out what's wrong?
Words are just much, much easier to remember than completely random strings.

No.106348099
>>106348031
Also, it's not an "easy solution", it's just a better way to do it.
You obviously can't use it to memorize hundreds of passwords, that's just humanly impossible no matter what unless you're indeed trained in memorization. But a passphrase is an excellent scheme to use for things like the master password of your password manager, your encryption password on your computer, maybe your bank password or your crypto wallet or one or two things like this that you don't want to save anywhere even in a password manager.
It takes some effort but it's possible for just about anyone to remember a couple dozen words for a few passwords like this. Meanwhile for a lot of people it'd be almost impossible to actually reliably memorize several tens of completely random meaningless characters.

50 bits is probably enough, like you say, but my main pain point is that the more people adopt a specific method, the easier it is to target. Although that probably makes groups that insist on passwords no longer than 12 characters either very narrow-minded (fixated on not seeing full words in passwords) or just not aware of the actual problem. I never got why people put a hard character limit that low on passwords.
>>106348069
All right. Memorization was never really my strong suit, and I saw people forget six-digit combinations regularly, but maybe it is just easier with words. I just didn't want to commit to it without really scrutinizing it. I'll need to fire up Jack the Ripper one of these days and see if I'm really that predictable (probably).

No. Re-read my first post - if you need to cycle through 2^50 or 2^100 random passwords, it's equally hard regardless of whether you're cycling through individual characters or word dictionaries. The only thing that matters is how many options you need to search through.
Of course if someone tries using a random character search while you're using a word phrase, or vice-versa, then it's even better since they'll basically never find it. But that's not worth considering because it's down to luck. If a website's password database is leaked, you might have two hackers independently trying to crack it and one will be trying random characters and one will be trying word passphrases, for example. So you always assume the worst case and go from there.

Is there a way to change the right-click behavior in firefox?
If I right click, a context menu is spawned such that the top-left or bottom-left corner of that context menu is at my cursor, however this does not always work because my context menu is too big.
What ends up happening sometimes (especially when the cursor is near the right edge of the screen) is that the context menu would spawn with buttons on top of the cursor and when right click is released it causes the options to be clicked which is really annoying.
Is there a way to control this behavior?

Technically, you can it without usb debugging with scrcpy's otg mode, but that doesn't have video so you wouldn't be able to see what's going on :PP
I suppose you could feel around to get access to usb debugging.
Another option is trying to boot into safe/recovery mode and seeing if that has usb debugging enabled.

In firefox, the filter is: boards.4chan.org##+js(trusted-set-attr, input[name="email"], autocomplete, off)
In Chrome (and chromium browsers), the filter is: boards.4chan.org##+js(trusted-set-attr, input[name="email"], autocomplete, one-time-code)
Chrome ignores autocomplete="off" but this value can be used since they seem to have disabled autocomplete for one time codes :)

what's the white man's solution to this problem? something that's "set and forget", makes good use of the limited bandwidth, supports resumable transfers, and lets you conveniently browse the directory structure with an Android client?
does this even exist or should I roll my own?

To this day I have no idea how to recursively crawl a website in Go concurrently without deadlocks or other fuckery.
If I use a worker pool with sync.WaitGroup for each added url and an unbuffered urls channel, the worker goroutines will eventually all get stuck trying to add to the channel.
If I use a buffered channel that only works as long as the channel doesn't fill up accidentally. Then we end up at the same problem as above.
ChatGPT suggests sync.errgroup but that's not even standard library and it seems weird that the language that is praised for its concurrency can't do something like this very easily. Any advice? Am I missing something?

I'm just getting into video editing and I want to know how anons over here make such small size mp4 that maintain quality like this one I saw on /v/, and it's also 1 min long too. I tried to make one that is 50 secs long and even after trimming it to 30 secs and lowering the quality to shit it's still 4.3mb. I'm using davinci resolve to edit, and I guess I'll need something else to take the rendered video and compress to a small size like that, or maybe there's a settings trick I'm missing
I have a 2TB SSD split into two partitions, one for Windows and the other for various files. Since my Windows partition is getting bloated I want to increase the size of it by formatting the additional partition and adding storage to the OS partition but Windows won't let me. Is it really not possible to format a partition located on the same physical drive as a Windows install? If so, why the fuck is this not explained during the OS install if it lets you split the drive into several partitions but then bars you from making any changes?

How do you find drivers for this? All the drivers I'm finding are outdated and Windows 10 doesn't even let me install them. I even tried using Snappy Driver Installer & Snappy Driver Installer Origin (Yes, I used the both of two already, shame on me) and still my USB nor keyboard is working. windows is picky aboutediting partitions, something like you can only expand forward butnot backwards and not if theres already stuff in front of it.
theres a workaround if you have a spare drive of the same or hgiher capacity.
clone or backup your drive using macrium to a secondary drive attached by usb. but edit the partitions for the clone/backup. increase what you want, decrease what you want, maybe even change the order.
then you can either swap the drives (put the edited clone in your computer, in which case the second drives needs to be an equivalent form factor and spec ssd), or you can then load a macrium emergency thingy off a usb stick at boot and then clone the clone back to your internal drive from the secondary clone usb drive. of if a backup rather than a clone, same kinda thing, restore the backup to the internal original drive with the edited layout you set for the backup.

How does an IPTV provider actually operate? I assume they have legit subscriptions and use capture cards to relay the streams to various servers which end users connect to but when there are big live events a lot of people report that certain channels go down due to congestion while other channels work perfectly fine. Why is this? Wouldn't the whole server get bogged down by congestion or does switching channels actually make you connect to another server, thus giving you a better experience?

The real danger is retards opening stuff in windows, where file extensions are off by default.
I'd still get some antivirus from the app/play store and run it with the latest definitions, maybe it will find something else or an app is flagged as 'not secure' ? It can't hurt.

Not really, no. The point of getting an external DAC is mostly to keep it away from the noise and EMI inside the computer case (and maybe to give it a power supply that's free of those as well). This is because the noise can become audible in your speakers or headphones if it's bad enough and you don't want that.
There's no reason to do this for a network connection, if it works it works and there's no reason for you to care about whatever noise there's on the cable. Ethernet is also digital and designed to deal with noise and signal loss across the cable anyway, so like I said if your network connection works fine then there's no reason to fuck with it.

Looking for the format's theoretical limit. Is it something like 6 million quadrillion billion zillion that's never gonna be saturated before I, my children, their children, their children and their children all die and turn to dust, or is the limit closer to becoming an issue in the foreseeable future?
I know QR codes can increase in size but I'm talking mainly about the 101x101 size, if you happen to know what a 177x177 size's (max size?) limits are, knowing those would be nice too I guess.

Is there a standard best practice way to collect data from TCP? I have lines of text, I'm thinking:
- loop:
- copy bytes from TCP stream into buffer starting at bufptr
- Scan buffer for newlines and copy into Strings
- if no newlines and buffer full, set bufptr=0, continue
- copy any remaining data from the end of the buffer to the start, set bufptr=len(remaining)
Seems simple enough, which is very offputting. This should lose data that doesn't fit into my buffer, which is ok.

No. You have to buy an adapter with a UL / InterTek stamp unless you know what you're looking at. That's a real electrocution, fire, and equipment destruction hazard. When I buy brands from Amazon I'm not familiar with, I look for photo reviews and pull the cert number based on those. It's not something you can afford to fuck around with.

Each link shortener "link" is still a unique URL. If you're linking to an external link "first" the code is just linking to that external link which is a unique URL. So none of that matters.
I don't know the answer just wanted to point that out. You can probably calculate that by doing a bit of research to see how many bits of information they can encode and what the URL format is (e.g. is it just plain ASCII of the full string or is there anything clever). Then you can just see how many URLs you can fit in that many bits.

I'm fairly certain that he's full of shit and that any actual zero days would probably be exploited through ports rather than a web based attack from a "mainstream site". Am I wrong?
As far as I know for a start any exploit would have to go through your browser first, then through whatever security it has, THEN somehow get to your computer.
Am I right in that he was making absolutely no sense?

There used to be little music playlists in Flash files, don't know who made them or maintained them but they were pretty neat. Is there a service that offers something like this, where you can upload files from your own music library and get a simplistic layout for web playback (no album art, no lyrics, none of that extra bulky shit)? My end goal is to be able to listen to some of my music at work via browser. It doesn't have to be my full library on my devices at home, I'd prefer to avoid remotely connecting to anything I'm hosting from home altogether, so being able to upload the songs to a third party hosting service would probably be closer to something I'm looking for. I've been seeing Plexamp/Navidrome/Jellyfin, but I'm not too interested in paying whatever for Plex, and paying for a VPS for very occasional use would be a waste of money. I'm talking <2 hours use once or twice a week, if that. Or do they offer what I'm looking for and I'm just overthinking things?
What would be ideal is a portable install of Foobar on a USB drive, but not only would I not be able to smuggle a device like that into my work area, the computers I have access to at work are extremely locked down.
Shouldn't this be 1TB? Why is it 931GB?

Yes but shit like Cross site scripting is already an issue which is mitigated by various measures and being on windows 10 vs windows 11 wont really change how those are happening. More over 4chan itself would have to be compromised first since it's not t01alezcr4cks dot ru. Right?

Toshibanon here again. I think I fucked up by installing all the drivers that Snappy Driver gave me. I also did something last night that I can't recall correctly (It was something along the lines of "Check integrity of the updates" on Microsoft Update?) Anyway, my computer's C drive is now 100% full (used to have 1 free gb or so, since it's a 30 GB ssd), it's stuttering like crazy, takes a large amount of time to boot... etc. I think it's time to format it. What a shame.
I was using it as my "main Windows laptop", basically for audio recording / producing and some retro LAN gaming with friends.
What are my main options now? The computer has a 30gb SSD and a 500GB HHD. My two main lines are using it without the drivers (I would be missing a USB 3.0 port, the card reader, integrated bluetooth, some function keys etc) or maybe using a Linux distro that can easily live on those 30 GB.
Reccomendations for a desperate anon?
Also, what's the deal with laptops? Should I be looking for another one that is less than 10 years old so I won't be getting driver issues?

I can already do math on that but what are some ways of making a nice graph out of it? Let's say km/h on the X axis and RPM on the Y axis and lines describing the speed per gear from let's say 2000 to 10000 RPM.

Two questions:
1. Any recommendations for batteries and battery chargers for AA batteries? I rarely need them but would rather move away from single-use?
2. How would I go about learning how to make a process e.g. a batch file which can do such things as: Replace an image file from one randomly chosen from a predefined selection of images, keeping the same filename; or to have folders use icons randomly selected from a predefined set of icons, both triggering when certain things happen such as when I turn on my PC or when I would view said folder that is using the icon?

It's on a tablet holder, and the suction-cup mount broke. But the clamp part is built pretty well, and given there's this joint would suggest modularity, if not a standard type of connection.
I tried looking up the brand name ("Yada") to see if they have replacement or alternate mounts, but it does not exist at all. (An ebay listing for it is all that turns up for the name.)

probably
i too like to use old hardware for secondary purposes. give them a second life, squeeze as much life out of them as possible. for two reasons. 1) poor-ish, don't want to spend hundreds on new hardware when ive got perfectly functioning old machines. even on power efficiency it would take like 20 years to be worth it. but also 2) environmental reasons, too much ewaste these days, its a disgrace, i want to create as little as possible of my own.
im currently using 2 repurposed old laptops. got 2 more in reserve, however 1 is a macbook. cant use windows but happily accpeted ubuntu on it for a few years...until recently. the thing is so old that even ubuntu/gnome just arent providing the drivers for it in future releases. 22.04 is the last that works perfectly on it. 24.04, 24.10, 25.04 etc all have the driver for the ancient integrated graphics removed. the generic doesnt work well, so it glitches graphically now. it's just too old to maintain so theyre moving on now. with extended updates i have 7 more years of updates on this thing (2032) which isnt bad considering its from around 2010, but then no more updates.
so basically, while ubuntu might work for you now, dont count on it long term. ultimately all these old dinosaur computers will have to be retired sooner or later.

If you use only digits to represent the document, that's 10 to the power 2232.
Either way, that's more URLs than have ever existed or will ever exist on the Internet.
These calculations assume that you optimize your implementation so that URLs have the form prefix/document, and you only encode the document part in the QR code (your domain/protocol/path/port don't change between documents).

Because a GB always was 1024 MB (which is 1024 KB which is 1024 bytes).
Hard drive manufacturers redefined it but literally nobody uses decima EXCEPT storage manufacturers. So now people have learned that "yeah drives that say 1TB are just 930GB and that's how it is for some reason".
GiB is an ex post facto rationalisation to try to exonerate storage manufacturers. English is not a prescriptivist language, there is no "academy of language", and GB in common English means the binary quantity, simple as.

If anything the older version is more likely to become vulnerable (especially once microsoft stops putting out security updates, unless you jump through hoops to get IoT updates or something).
And if it was really some NSA operation using zero days, they'd just target both windows 10 and windows 11, no problem.

Thunderbird is the default answer honestly.
It's moderately heavy for what it does since it's based on Firefox but really this pretty much doesn't matter unless you're using a celeron netbook from a decade ago or something. There's not much else that's still decently usable.

If it's a 2.5" form factor sata ssd, a 250 gb ssd from gigabyte or crucial is very cheap, like 40 bucks, or spend more if your really need 500. Since you have an HDD i would say you dont, but its your choice. Check the ram sticks too, please tell me it's dual channel (2 sticks) and not just one... If the latop can only take or 'understand' 8gb it's better to put in 2 4gb sticks.
Don't use Ubuntu, if you just want the stability try Kubuntu or Mint, if the laptop is really old and weak or runs slow you gotta go Arch. Endeavour OS and Cachy OS are really good options, theyre installed via GUI you only need to click through them, no picking and configuring everything by hand and by heart.

It's almost like having that degree actually puts you in a lower status than being in college, lol. Fucking kill me already.
My current plan is to do a master's next year so I can get a more practical career oriented education and better networking. Since my bachelors is worthless and I have no experience worth mentioning I feel like this is my last real chance and I wanna have this in my bag before I turn 30.

This will likely be in the form of AI generated listicles that exist for no other reason than to display ads. But you'll start to get an idea of what's available and expand your search from there.
I should add that this is one area that's likely been shaken up by AI/ML and I have no idea what the best option is at this point. But it was Dragon for a long time.

I saw some people on reddit saying that the .ia versions are sometimes a different file size and that they may reencode some sometimes for streaming better.

On boot you need to get either into the bios or bios boot menu. If the latter you can just select the drive. If the former (you open the full bios), you need to go into the exit/reboot options and find an option to override the boot order.
Either check your motherboard's manual, or just spam F11 and Delete, maybe F1 and F2 and F12 too, as soon as you turn the computer on. It'll usually be one of these keys.
The only exception is if you last ran windows and never disabled its "fast boot" feature. It does some hybrid hibernation fuckery that prevents you from booting into bios and will always boot back into windows immediately.

Often, but not always. Here's a folder with the datasheet and pinmux for that MCU; I'd trace the PA02/PA03 and PB00/PB01 pins and see if either set is broken out to test pads or through holes:
https://github.com/XradioTech/xradiotech.github.io/tree/master/docs/doc/XR872
Also, that 8-pin IC with "XMC" on it is the SPI flash; with a reader and SOIC clip you could probably read it out.
Note that that MCU isn't the sort that would run Linux (it's more akin to an ESP32), so if you want to investigate or modify the firmware you'd probably need to use a disassembler.

It's not that monitor. I downloade the pic to use as an example but it has the same pixel "stain"

Really late reply but thank you anon
what's stopping anyone with a vendetta against the woke agenda from just forking a GPL or MIT project that puts a gay flag in the credits menu and just echoing updates upstream except without the flag
it's always attempts at actual forks that end up dead because no one else cared enough about it

How is it vague, do you not see the empty spaces? The thumbnails don't skip pages btw, there are just empty spaces in between.

Nothing, but good luck convincing everyone to switch to it.
Most of these forks die quickly or end up shoving other crap in there, so there isn't usually any incentive to switch unless the shittery actually interferes with use (nag screens and the like).

How can I protect myself against the threat of age verification? The simplest solution would be using a VPN for everything, yes. But what about 4chan? I'd also have to buy a pass to whitelist myself while using a VPN. But what if I simply routed 4chan traffic through my normal network while the rest goes through a wireguard tunnel? So here's the real question: can I simply add 4chan's IP and maybe its CDN IP in my wireguard config
[Interface]
PrivateKey = ...
Address = 10.0.0.2/24
PostUp = ip route add 4chanIP via 192.168.1.1
PreDown = ip route del 4chanIP via 192.168.1.1
[Peer]
PublicKey = ...
AllowedIPs = 0.0.0.0/0
Endpoint = ...

Shouldn't have to. Acid is water soluble by definition. If there's caked on residue you can wash it off with water and maybe light soap before the alcohol treatment.

That's just how the sidebar of the pdf reader is styled, some people like the gaps I guess. To change it you need to make a userContent.css file (different from userChrome.css but in the same directory) with this css:
@-moz-document regexp(".+\.pdf") {
.thumbnail {
margin: 2px 2px !important; /*reduce gaps between pages*/
border-width: 5px !important; /*make the highlighted area around each page smaller*/
}
#thumbnailView {
padding: 0 !important; /*remove the panel's padding around all of the pages so that it actually starts at the top left*/
width: 100% !important; /*remove the -60px from this so that it refelcts the removed padding*/
}
}

You can achtually do routes using the systemd syntax, can't remember the exacts but it's in the man pages. I did the exact same thing back in the day.
And set them in the actual interface config, not the VPN interface. Makes more sense as the routes take place in it.

Doable, but time consuming. It's a hobby kind of project, definitely not install-and-forget.
You'd learn a lot, that's for sure.
Anyway, the first step is always to buy a domain, so even if you later decide that self-hosting mail is not for you, the domain is a godsend for someone who's into technology.
