at the basic level, it's about tonal balance (EQ) and to reach a similar loudness as other EDM tracks (using compressors, limiters and saturation) while avoiding unpleasant distortion or harshness. mono compatibility is important especially for dance club music but the music should be understandable without excessive phase cancellation also for people who listen on mono bluetooth speakers, an airpod in one ear etc. a common advice is to have mono bass like in that video he has a cutoff frequency of 100hz where below it the mix becomes mono so even if you're playing on stereo speakers, each speaker plays the same sound in the bass/subbass frequenciess. there is also the aspect of analog coloration but this is largely ignored in EDM because a shocking amount of people are unaware of how the sausage is made behind the scenes outside of professional pop, rock and hiphop producers and engineers. so the classic EDM tracks became huge hits with relatively little effort because of the analog gear that was used but people think it's just the talent of the artist/songwriter/producer.

If they're synthesized sounds it doesn't really matter if they were made by the song's producer, by another producer whom they sampled, by a hired sound designer sitting next to him in the studio, or by anyone else. Someone made them and if you're trying to get good at producing music (rather than producing this one song) it's in your interest to try and remake them regardless of who the author is.

noob here how can you remake sounds if they might have recorded them using random specific instruments and objects they had on hand that you don't have? or do you just try to get close to it?
Anonymous No.106366383 >>106366432
>>106366329
Recorded sounds are much harder to recreate digitally, but you can still get pretty close sometimes depending on how much processing there is on top of them to mask the source, and how close you can get to that source with a sample of your own.
It's not really a song sound design job but more like a movie foley sound design job, where you use whatever you have on hand to make the sound of the thing on screen, rather than recording the actual thing (and yeah for them it just needs to be believable and not necessarily accurate to a specific recording, but you get the idea).

Just watching sound design tutorials and experimenting a lot with all the different things you can do in sound design (this is key, as it gives you that "feel" for what everything does and it helps you get an idea of what could have been used in a sound you hear).
I got a quarter of the way through Syntorial 1 years ago, and even if I was already experienced in sound design, I still found it good. It's a pretty systematic way of going through the aforementioned process, which is an excellent starting point. Highly recommend it (it's on rutracker).

>wondering if i should try or not.

I was saying your track has no cohesion, each instrument has nothing to do with each other instrument apart from being in the same key and tempo. So even when it's just the pads and bass line it's really grating to listen to when they're both just drifting off on their own instead of working together, so when the melody comes in it sounds really overbearing really quick even though it's just three elements.
Learn how to make them work as one unit, counterpoint is a good starting point for that.

Apart from the fact that one of the anons you were arguing with wasn't even me, I wasn't called out by anyone or for anything, you're just name calling and pretending like you made some sort of point. Reminds me of a certain argumentative tactic employed by a certain kind of people with a certain kind of skin complexion...
Melanin enriched chimp-outs aside though, Ironically most modern edm slop doesn't use a lot of hi hats, if any at all, because it mostly relies on lazily putting everything under heavy side chain compression or a bass with a fast filter envelope. Doesn't matter though, because what I said still holds up regardless of this juxtaposition. You can either admit you were wrong and apologize, or continue to be butthurt by a simple observation and crash out much like the basketball americans you keep trying to distance yourself from, though I have a feeling it will be the latter for you.
Not to mention that I don't even classify trap as electronic music, kek.

You have to elicit discussion - ask for feedback, a review, an opinion
I was asking about any nostalgia people might have had for shitty 2010's dubstep when it was new, since it was one of those 'you had to be there' kinda things

while some people scoffed at their classmates for listening to it, they were probably having fun with something new instead of solely listening to the same tired and solved genres of music

and while some people think the world doesn't need anymore of it (probably true), the same goes for lots of genres of music: screamo, metal, mumble rap and people are still making plenty of that - way more than old school dubstep, though I probably shouldn't have bothered sharing something so niche and nostalgia driven *shrugs*

the first is a low effort AI slop shitpost, its purpose is to annoy people so it's best to get people to click on it without knowing what it is and the jokes aren't as funny if you have to explain them. a couple of anons were sperging about hi-hats so this song uses a lot of hi-hat rolls. the line about "extremely painful" and "big girl for you" is a baneposting meme reference like in >>106354985.

I didn't backpedal anything, esl fag and if you didn't have the reading comprehension of a melanin enriched american, that you desperately try to distance yourself from, you would understand that.
Sorry that I interrupted you from sucking off your favorite artist, but if you can't handle a simple observation without chimping out, then that's your problem.

I've been listening to my own shitty patch where some resonant filters gets their frequssy sweeped by a random lfo to produce overtones for several hours now. I would like to expend upon that I use it in a musical context. What do

there are anons who believe that the beatles could make it big starting from scratch with nothing but a focusrite scarlett interface and a couple of microphones, like come on are you underage children or third worlders like how can you be this far from reality. the beatles are like the posterchild of modern pop production and even now in 2025 the top tier producers use mic pres and compressors that are based on what the beatles used which the finest studio engineers developed at that time. and greg wells acknowledged that a $7400 atomic clock was greatly beneficial for his sound like they live on a different planet on what kind of technology they use compared to babby tier anons with their DAW stock plugins that even third worlders have access to but there aren't many self-made artists that make it big despite this easy access to software tools because the music simply doesn't have that special sauce to it.

audiophile classicaltards hold vinyl records in the highest regard, it's just a pretentious ideal that people say they want the "natural" sound, the recordings are highly colored and in a blind listening test where they were rating different speakers or w/e they pulled a prank with real instrument players scoring the lowest

1176 is mostly used on single tracks and not on the master bus and it's not the listeners job to wrestle with the recording, even before the beatles they had people in lab coats working out how to make the music sound good on people's shitty AM radio systems

listen son you definitely underestimate the qualities of the 1176, even a basic daw like mario paint can benefit from it, what you have to do is, well as you know it uses mouse controls, through the snes connector so what you have to do is just splice a couple of them into the control wites, one channel per wire, obv hust the first four and then the seventh is ground, as a smart person you inow the pinouts already ofc but other anons need to be told this, try it someitme

Literally what's the appeal of reonise if you have a piano roll? Trackers look way better than piano rolls: you can see 5 tracks going on at once and see how they interact with each other. You can't do that with piano roll without stacking, and musical sheet has the page blow up.

I rarely look at my music, I listen to it. Of course my nu-MPC has a piano roll but it's pokey and fiddly. I actually find it fastest to edit things by using the MIDI event list if I find I want to change just a note. Everything else is slower, even trackers as you may puzzle over how to cram the dynamics you want into the two effects you're given. If you can.
