Not really, but I did recently buy a USB optical drive to get easier access to all my old discs.

Yes, i exclusively post on my own AI simulated version of 4chan where every other poster is simulated based on a database of posts i saved from 2009-2012.
You all just haven't realized it yet.

I haven’t had much success with it personally. It’s too much of a “middle of the road” solution to work out for me because a lot of modern tech is too cool or useful to get rid of entirely. I just have large sections of my day where I avoid technology entirely and at all other times, my technology use is unrestricted. I’ve also stopped most of my passive consumption of media during leisure time, so I don’t watch anything while I eat and I usually don’t listen to anything while I drive. Since my main pastime is music, I only really listen to it when I’m transcribing or trying to actively listen to an album.

Some time ago, someone actually trained an AI on 4chan posts and the results were indistinguishable from the human-generated posts. It even came up with clever jokes. So this is possible, you could make your own offline imageboard where you're the only human poster, and only train the AI on high-quality comments.

I wish. I tried listening to the radio for a little while, but there wasn't much on that I was interested in and the novelty wore off very quickly. My favorite thing was to listen in on hams chatting at night. Maybe I'll try that again at some point since the Internet is quickly getting far worse that I could've possibly imagined.

Going back? I never left. Computers, phones, consoles? Sure, they can have internet. I've never once had my radio or door or fucking oven and dishwasher so much as know what an internet is.

*Indistinguishable because the "people" it was emulating are so botlike and low IQ in behavior it's easy for a bot to emulate them. You're so busy rimming aislop you forgot the bot was emulating the kind of "people" who are incapable of reading and following the most basic of conversations, replying with nothing but buzzwords and insults the second they see something they disagree with or don't understand.

I agree, I'm just saying, in theory, you really could have your own "AI simulated version of 4chan".

In terms of technology, I think we have now a pretty good way to isolate ourselves from the internet. And the solution is generative AI. The appeal of the internet is based on its novelty factor. You will always get something "new". But thanks to generative AI, you can now generate your own "novelties". Let's just assume you have a very powerful PC. You could generate tons of fascinating content with it: Texts and images.
We have here alot of people who believe, that data hoarding is the solution to cut yourself off the internet. But if I had the money to create a system to live an offline life, I would put the money, into an powerful AI machine.

When did bluetooth and wifi tech get popular, 2009 or something like that? Well guess who completely avoided all of that and is now learning that you can connect any controller to any PC or use a laptop to broadcast a wifi signal and it'll connect to your phone for an internet connection. I didn't know of this shit.

I went back to physical media for my portable music needs some time ago, with Walkmans of the CD, MiniDisc and cassette varieties. All early 2000s models from Japan and so incredibly slim and light for what they are, since miniaturization had been perfected. I've found myself listening to a lot more full albums and not just bouncing around like with streaming.

>bought simple audio player that accepts most formats
>it has usbc charge, 3.5 jack And bluetooth for modern buffoonery
>spend an afternoon digitizing cool cds and putting some order in my digital audio collection (mostly stuff i torrented in my teens) , find some cool stuff I hadn’t heard in a long time since switching to spotify
>find an old hard drive with cool music from aunt who used to be a dj
>all of this fits on a 128 gb sd card that costs less than a big Mac nowadays
>enjoy it much more
the player is a simple mcguffin with spelling mistakes in the ui and I haven’t found a way to play in any other order than the way it’s ordered in the folder but im enjoying the simplicity a lot, also nice if you’re going somewhere and u want music but u also want to get away from the phone
